Assistant Director, IT Service Operations

The Assistant Director, IT Service Operations is a senior leadership role within ISD Infrastructure, responsible for ensuring reliable, efficient, and resilient IT operations across the University, including the academic and medical enterprise.

This role partners closely with clinical, academic, and operational stakeholders and serves as a key escalation point for enterprise IT operations. The Assistant Director provides strategic and operational leadership for critical IT service management functions, leads a high-performing team, and drives continuous improvement across systems, processes, and services.

What You ll Do

IT Operations Leadership

  • Serve as a secondary accountable leader for enterprise Technology and IT Operations.
  • Oversee key ITIL practices, including:

o Asset Management

o Change Enablement

o Major Incident Management

o Problem Management

o Service Continuity & Disaster Recovery

  • Lead improvements to systems, processes, and services to increase stability, availability, and performance.
  • Ensure reliable 24/7 IT services and manage on-call support rotations.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with clinical, academic, and operational teams.
  • Work closely with IT Service Management teams to support day-to-day operations and business continuity.
  • Act as a primary escalation point for IT Operations-related issues.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Report risks, improvements, and operational performance to IT and executive leadership.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and manage a mid-sized to large team of IT Operations Management professionals.
  • Establish clear goals, priorities, and performance standards for the team.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members, promoting consistent best practices and career growth.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in hiring, performance management, promotions, and rewards.

Financial & Strategic Management

  • Oversee components of operating and capital budgets.
  • Participate in departmental budgeting and resource planning.
  • Monitor spending and resource utilization to inform planning and decision-making.

What You ll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive supervisory experience in a technology environment.
  • Strong leadership experience managing complex IT operations or services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an academic medical center or healthcare system.
