JOB DESCRIPTION
Electrical Engineer

Position Summary

The electrical engineer is responsible for developing and executing basic and detailed engineering for electrical systems applied to modular process packages and skids in the oil & gas, petrochemical, and power industries. The electrical engineer will combine strong technical electrical design fundamentals, in accordance with applicable international standards and company specifications, senior-level technical decision-making, and mentorship of junior engineers, with the ability to provide hands-on support during shop fabrication and in the field, including direct client interaction during commissioning and after-sales service.

Responsibilities
Lead the development and review of one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, conduit/cable tray installation drawings, and hazardous area classification layouts.
Perform and validate electrical load calculations, conductor sizing, voltage drop, short circuit, and protective device coordination studies, including review of calculations prepared by junior engineers or sub-contractors.
Specify and select electrical equipment (transformers, MCCs, VFDs, motor starters, lighting, grounding systems) in accordance with client requirements and applicable standards (NEC, IEEE, NEMA, API RP 500/505).
Prepare and approve technical specifications, equipment data sheets, and bid packages for electrical equipment and materials.
Develop and validate hazardous area classifications (Class I Div. 1/2, Zone 1/2) per NEC Articles 500-505, ensuring all specified components meet the required classification.
Review and approve vendor drawings for conformance with project specifications.
Serve as the senior technical reference for complex electrical design questions within the team.
Provide direct technical support to the shop during fabrication, wiring, and testing of skid-mounted electrical systems.
Resolve field deviations and coordinate engineering changes (redlines/as-builts) during construction.
Lead or participate in point-to-point checks, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and continuity/insulation verification prior to shipment.
Coordinate with the instrumentation, mechanical/piping, and structural teams to ensure proper integration of electrical systems within the skid.
Provide on-site technical support during installation, commissioning, and start-up of supplied electrical systems.
Diagnose and resolve complex field electrical issues (troubleshooting) on installed and operating equipment.
Document field findings and provide feedback to the engineering team for continuous improvement of future designs.
Train client personnel and junior team engineers on the operation and maintenance of supplied electrical systems.
Review installation procedures, alignment methods, and start-up protocols.
Interface with vendors and multidisciplinary teams (process, mechanical, piping, instrumentation and controls, rotating equipment, operations and maintenance teams).
Develop and update internal specifications, guidelines, engineering standards and best practices related to rotating equipment.
Maintain technical documentation and lessons learned from equipment operation and failures.
Provide technical training and mentorship to junior engineers and maintenance staff.
Issue BOMs and work instruction releases.
Communicate effectively and consistently with internal and external clients.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering experience in the oil & gas, petrochemical, or power generation industry, with a demonstrated track record of technical leadership on projects.
Proven experience designing electrical systems for modular packages/skids.
Experience with field support/commissioning at industrial sites.

Technical Knowledge
Proficiency in applicable codes and standards: NEC (NFPA 70), IEEE, NEMA, API RP 500/505, IEC (for international projects), and hazardous area classification.
Proficiency with electrical design tools (AutoCAD Electrical, SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or equivalent short-circuit/coordination software).
Working knowledge of control systems (PLC/DCS), associated instrumentation, and their interface with electrical systems.
