Job Description:

Job Description: SAP S/4HANA Operations Functional Consultant

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced SAP S/4HANA professional to support key phases of our SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition (PCE) implementation. This is a one-year SAP implementation project running from September 2026 through Summer 2027. The position is West Coast-based and requires working four days per week from our San Francisco office. This role spans the Explore, Realize, and Deploy phases, requiring a strong combination of business process understanding, integration expertise, data migration governance, and testing execution.

This is a client-side advisory role supporting the business organization and working closely with the selected System Integrator. The consultant will provide functional expertise, governance, and validation rather than performing primary SAP configuration and implementation activities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Explore Phase (Design & Requirements)
  • Workshop Facilitation: Participate in business workshops and support the business in collecting inputs for workshop preparation.
  • Requirements Management: Bridge the gap between business and the system integrator by helping the integrator understand complex business requirements.
  • Organizational Structure & Golden Rules: Support the business in defining organizational data structures (e.g., plants, sales organizations, cost centers) and establishing golden rules.
  • Solution Enablement: Assist the business in fully understanding the SAP S/4HANA solution, end-to-end processes, and S/4 PCE WRICEF (Workflows, Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms) targets.
  • Design Challenge & Validation: Actively challenge the system integrator during the design phase to ensure optimal solution architecture and validate final target business processes.
  • Demo Preparation: Prepare test data for system and solution demonstrations.

Integration & Interface Scope: Participate in integration workshops, validate integration designs, and support the definition of SAP interface requirements, including business logic, field mapping, transformation rules, routing principles, and target interface mappings. Validate the overall data migration scope, strategy, methods, and tools.

2. Realize Phase (Configuration, Testing & Migration)

SAP Interface Management: Define, review, and validate interface business logic, source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, error-handling requirements, and routing rules for application and SAP S/4 interfaces on mediation layers. Participate in integration design reviews and support end-to-end interface testing across applications and S/4 PCE prior to UAT.
  • Testing & Test Data: Prepare applications and systems for test data alignment. Support the business in writing test cases, execute and validate integration tests, and validate the scope of automatic tests (including test cases, APIs, and end-to-end scenarios).
  • Data Migration Execution:
    • Design, develop, and test extractors and mapping tools to fit target migration templates.
    • Define and validate mapping rules, data cleansing procedures, and data quality checks.
    • Execute data extraction from source systems (iterative cycles) and validate migration results for unit and integration testing.
    • Support the business in validating data migration outputs.

3. Deploy & Tool Kit Phase (Change Management & Testing)
  • Change Management & Training: Assist change management specialized training on SAP S/4 PCE (led by external partners) and support Key Users (KU) during end-user training sessions.
  • Toolkit & Planning: Contribute to the definition and execution of comprehensive testing plans.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven hands-on experience implementing SAP S/4HANA (preferably Public Cloud Edition).
  • Strong functional knowledge of core SAP modules (FI/CO) and organizational data definition, and basic understanding of the MM, SD, PP modules

Demonstrated experience in SAP interface management, including business logic definition, source-to-target mapping, transformation rules, middleware/mediation mapping, error handling, and end-to-end interface testing.
  • Solid background in SAP Data Migration methodologies, extraction tools, data quality, and cleansing governance.
  • Experience in test management, including writing test cases, automated testing validation, and execution across integrated environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills to effectively bridge business teams and external system integrators.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: 5+ years of consulting or industry experience in SAP S/4HANA supply chain implementations, including a minimum of 2-3 full-lifecycle deployments.
  • Core Knowledge: Deep expertise in SAP MM, PP, and EWM/WM configurations, stock transport orders (STO), batch management, and serial number management.
  • Certifications: SAP Certified Application Associate for S/4HANA Sourcing and Procurement, Production Planning, or Extended Warehouse Management preferred.
  • Technical Literacy: Proficiency with SAP Fiori apps, master data governance (MDG), EDI/IDoc interfaces, and basic understanding of analytics tools like SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).
  • Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong stakeholder management, and clear cross-functional communication bridging warehouse floor operators and supply chain executives.
