Overview

Hands-on z/OS storage administrator responsible for installation, maintenance, and operations of mainframe storage environments (DASD, VTS/tape, SAN) in accordance with enterprise standards. Partner with systems programmers and operations to keep storage performant, resilient, and compliant.

Key Responsibilities

Install, maintain, and patch z/OS storage software/hardware; apply fixes via SMP/E and validate in test before prod cutovers.
Administer DFSMS (ACS routines, SMS classes, data set lifecycle), DFHSM, DFSMSdss/FlashCopy, RMM, IBM utilities, and relevant ISV tools.
Manage DASD (capacity, allocation, performance), catalogs, storage pools, and VTS/tape; coordinate SAN zoning/LUN presentation with storage/network teams.
Monitor, diagnose, and resolve storage incidents; perform root cause analysis and implement preventive actions.
Execute storage change management (backout plans, testing, documentation).
Support disaster recovery and replication procedures as applicable (e.g., Copy Services/GDPS if present).
Create and update runbooks; share knowledge with staff and operate within documented standards.

Required Qualifications

7 10+ years in z/OS storage administration across DASD/VTS/SAN.
Strong with DFSMS suite (policy design & support), IBM utilities, and at least one major ISV storage toolset.
Proven experience with SMP/E, JCL, and testing/QA of changes; confident with catalog management and HSM policy tuning.
Track record of diagnosing complex storage issues and coordinating fixes across infra teams.

Nice to Have

Experience with GDPS/Copy Services Manager, performance tuning, and Parallel Sysplex environments.
Effective written/verbal communication; ability to prioritize multiple workstreams.
