About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced SAP ABAP Developer with deep expertise in the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) to lead our cloud transformation initiatives. In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy cloud-native applications and extensions, bridging the gap between classic ABAP on S/4HANA and modern cloud development with ABAP Cloud, RAP, and CAP. You will play a key role in migrating legacy custom code to the cloud while adhering to "Clean Core" principles .
Key Responsibilities
Application Development & Architecture:
Design and develop HANA-optimized ABAP solutions on S/4HANA, including RICEFW components, using CDS Views (annotations, associations, table functions), AMDPs, and OData services (SEGW and RAP-based) .
Build and enhance cloud-compliant applications using the RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP) and the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) .
Lead the design and development of custom SAP Fiori/UI5 applications, including Fiori Elements (List Report, Object Page) and the Flexible Programming Model .
Define and enforce development standards, clean core principles, and SAP''s recommended extensibility approach (key user, developer, and side-by-side) .
BTP & Integration Strategy
Design and deliver side-by-side and in-app extensions on SAP BTP using CAP/RAP .
Develop integrations via SAP Integration Suite (CPI), API Management, and Event Mesh .
Utilize BTP services such as Destination Service, Connectivity Service, XSUAA, and Business Application Studio (BAS) .
Technical Leadership & Migration
Support and execute SAP ECC to S/4HANA migration projects, including code remediation and adaptation of custom developments .
Govern the development landscape using CI/CD pipelines, abapGit, and Cloud ALM / Solution Manager .
Lead solution design workshops with client architects and functional consultants; produce HLD, LLD, and technical design documents .
Stay current with SAP''s roadmap (ABAP Cloud / Steampunk, RAP, BTP, Joule, AI Foundation) and proactively recommend adoption of new capabilities .
Required Qualifications & Skills
Experience & Education:
Bachelor''s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Lead/Architect Level: 9-15+ years of SAP experience, with at least 4+ years of hands-on ABAP on HANA and 2+ end-to-end S/4HANA implementations .
Developer/Consultant Level: 5-8+ years of SAP ABAP experience with hands-on BTP project implementation .
Core Technical Skills:
ABAP: Deep expertise in OO ABAP, Reports (ALV), BAPIs, RFCs, BDCs, User Exits, BADIs, and Enhancement Framework .
ABAP on HANA: Expertise in CDS Views, AMDPs, HANA-optimized code pushdown, and performance tuning .
BTP & Cloud: Strong understanding of SAP BTP architecture and experience in extending SAP applications in the cloud, using CAP and RAP .
Fiori/UI5: Strong hands-on experience developing custom Fiori applications and configuring the Fiori Launchpad .
Integration: Strong experience with OData services (V2 and V4), REST APIs, and cloud integration (CPI) .
Professional Attributes:
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills .
Proven experience leading client-facing workshops and presenting to senior stakeholders .
Preferred/Nice-to-Have:
Exposure to AI/ML concepts, Generative AI, Joule, or Prompt Engineering .
Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and RISE with SAP .
Experience with event-driven architecture and microservices on BTP .
SAP certifications in ABAP, S/4HANA, or BTP .
Strong working knowledge of at least one S/4HANA functional area (FI/CO, MM, SD, or PP)
