Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide mechanical engineering expertise within a high-volume manufacturing facility.
Approximately 80% of the position will be spent on the production floor, 10% at a desk working on engineering/computer-based activities, and 10% in meetings.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on manufacturing engineering experience, project management capabilities, and expertise in mechanical design, equipment installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Provide mechanical engineering expertise across one or multiple areas of the manufacturing plant.
Lead continuous improvement and corrective action initiatives and projects.
Provide technical support to internal manufacturing and engineering stakeholders.
Manage projects involving new machine installations, equipment upgrades, and plant improvements, with project values ranging from approximately $50K to $5M.
Analyze project requirements and identify and resolve design and engineering challenges.
Ensure engineering solutions are implemented accurately, on schedule, and within budget.
Oversee project workflows and coordinate internal and external resources to achieve project objectives.
Ensure all applicable safety objectives, regulations, and legal requirements are followed.
Monitor existing systems, processes, and technologies and recommend modifications to improve quality, reliability, and efficiency.
Serve as the mechanical engineering lead throughout all project phases, including:
Develop and manage engineering drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD Mechanical, Inventor, and Vault.
Create and finalize mechanical designs based on project scope, engineering requirements, and safety standards.
Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) and spare-parts requirements.
Work closely with equipment vendors and manage external contractors during installations.
Conduct project and equipment risk assessments.
Implement appropriate safety countermeasures.
Support machine FAT, startup, commissioning, and transition into daily operations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Strong mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Experience leading mechanical engineering projects from design through implementation and commissioning.
Experience with machine installation, equipment upgrades, startup, and commissioning.
Strong understanding of mechanical design and engineering principles.
Experience managing engineering projects, vendors, contractors, and external resources.
Proficiency with AutoCAD Mechanical, Autodesk Inventor, and/or Autodesk Vault.
Experience developing engineering drawings, BOMs, and equipment documentation.
Strong understanding of equipment safety and risk assessment.
Ability to work effectively in a production environment and provide hands-on technical support.
Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in tire, automotive, heavy manufacturing, or other high-volume industrial manufacturing environments.
Experience managing capital projects ranging from $50K to $5M.
Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), machine startup, and commissioning.
Experience managing contractors and equipment vendors.
Experience with continuous improvement and corrective action programs.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing equipment, automation, and industrial machinery.
Work Environment
This is a highly hands-on onsite engineering position. Approximately 80% of the role is performed on the production floor, where employees may be exposed to:
Hearing protection and other required safety equipment must be used in designated production areas.
