Job Title: Splunk SOAR Developer
Location: Chicago, IL OR Denver, CO
Work Arrangement: 5 day onsite
Client Industry: Banking - Fortune 500
Duration: 12-24 Months Contract
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Splunk SOAR Developer to design, develop, and maintain security automation playbooks within Splunk SOAR (formerly Phantom). This role is focused on development and automation, not traditional SOC or cybersecurity analyst responsibilities. The ideal candidate has strong Python development experience, a solid understanding of security operations, and proven experience building SOAR workflows in an enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain automation playbooks using Splunk SOAR
Own the full lifecycle of SOAR playbooks: requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support
Integrate third-party security tools and services using REST APIs and other integrations
Review API documentation and implement secure, scalable integrations with the SOAR platform
Customize and configure Splunk SOAR to align with enterprise security workflows
Collaborate with security, infrastructure, and application teams to implement automation solutions
Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for orchestration workflows and integrations
Follow established change management processes when deploying SOAR integrations
Provide guidance and support to internal teams on SOAR automation capabilities
Required Qualifications
2+ years of hands-on experience with Splunk SOAR, including writing and troubleshooting playbooks
2+ years of experience using Splunk, including searching, data analysis, and passing data to SOAR
Strong Python development experience (must be able to clearly articulate individual contributions)
Experience working with REST APIs and third-party integrations
Proficiency with Git or other version control systems
Solid understanding of IT security concepts, incident response, and security operations
Experience working in an enterprise security environment
Superstar (Preferred) Qualifications
Strong developer background (Python preferred, Java a plus)
Experience with Splunk Enterprise Security
Strong understanding of SOAR vs. SIEM concepts
Proven experience with playbook development and troubleshooting
Ability to clearly explain hands-on development work using I statements (not team-only contributions)
Compensation:
Hourly Rate: $70-$78 per hour
This range reflects base compensation and may vary based on location, market conditions, experience, and candidate qualifications.
