Sr. Embedded Software Engineer

Description

We are looking for a Sr. Embedded Software Engineer to help build advanced flight software in Orlando, Florida. In this role, you will create and refine embedded solutions that support imaging payloads, onboard intelligence, and radio communications for space-based systems. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to bring hardware and software together, validate performance, and support mission readiness from development through operations.

Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and improve embedded software for CubeSat subsystems, including imaging, onboard processing, and communications components.

Develop reliable applications and low-level code using C, C++, and Python to support flight and test objectives.

Partner with hardware engineers to integrate sensors, processors, and embedded modules into mission-ready systems.

Build and optimize onboard image processing and AI-enabled workflows for timely analysis of mission data.

Create and verify software that supports radio links, telemetry, command handling, and spacecraft tracking functions.

Plan and execute verification activities such as unit testing, simulation, and hardware-in-the-loop validation to confirm system performance.

Troubleshoot embedded software behavior in constrained and space-like environments, identifying root causes and implementing fixes.

Contribute to ground support tools used for receiving, processing, and reviewing spacecraft data.

Produce clear technical documentation and collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and mission engineering teams throughout development.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced education is a plus.
At least 3 years of experience developing embedded software systems.
Strong programming ability in C and C++, with working knowledge of Python.
Familiarity with real-time or bare-metal software development for microcontroller-based platforms.
Understanding of satellite or wireless communication concepts relevant to telemetry and command systems.
Experience with image processing, AI, or machine learning frameworks used in embedded environments.
Proven debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills in complex hardware-software systems.
Exposure to CubeSat, small satellite, or aerospace system development is preferred.
