Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer with Modeling & Simulation (M&S) experience to support advanced missile defense initiatives in Huntsville, AL. This role will contribute to the development, integration, and analysis of complex system-of-systems architectures supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) mission.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing and implementing simulation frameworks, modeling advanced threat systems, and supporting system-level trade studies within a high-security environment. This role sits within the same technical domain as systems engineering but leans more heavily into software development, algorithm implementation, and analytical modeling.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain modeling and simulation software supporting missile defense applications.
Develop algorithms and analytical tools to model ballistic, hypersonic, aero-maneuvering, and advanced threat systems.
Support system-level trade studies and performance analysis within an MBSE environment.
Contribute to functional and behavioral modeling of missile defense architectures.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate simulation outputs into system requirements development.
Support Change Notices (CNs) and updates to system specifications, including performance, interface, and functional requirements.
Develop technical documentation, reports, and briefings for internal and MDA stakeholder reviews.
Validate and verify models through simulation testing and performance analysis.
Support traceability from system-level requirements to element-level implementation.
Required Qualifications
Active TS/SCI clearance.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or related technical discipline (Master's or PhD preferred).
Experience modeling or simulating missile defense systems or similar domains such as:
Air defense or air combat systems
Ballistic and non-ballistic intercept
Hypersonic / hyper-glide threats
Space or sub-orbital mechanics
Strong programming experience in MATLAB, C++, and/or Python.
Experience supporting large, complex system-of-systems environments.
Familiarity with missile defense components such as:
Aegis Weapons System
Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD)
Glide Phase Intercept (GPI)
Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS)
Fire Control, C2BMC
MDS Sensors (EO/IR/RF)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as:
Cameo / MSOSA
DOORS
MagicDraw or similar modeling platforms
Experience supporting MDA system specification updates.
Knowledge of countermeasures, interceptors, kill vehicles, radar systems, and sensor integration.
Experience performing functional decomposition and architecture development.
Ability to develop and present technical briefings to senior stakeholders.
Experience working directly with government customers in a secure environment.
