Job Description

BHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity as a Network Engineer 1, Network Engineer 2, or Network Engineer 3 at our Bridgeport, WV, Richmond, VA or at Western Area Headquarters in Greensburg, PA.

Responsibilities

  • Develops plans, designs, resource requirements and cost estimates for fiber optic and communication tower construction, maintenance projects, and support involving telecom transport networks and associated infrastructure.
  • Supports large Nokia Microwave transport network servicing data centers and gas transmission and storage facilities.
  • Plans and coordinates cross-functional or cross-company work, change management, and resource availability.
  • Monitors systems operations and adjusts operational plans accordingly.
  • Acts as a lead and/or technical resource to Network Engineers 1 and 2.
  • Provides accurate input into the budget process and contributes to meeting the actual targets.
  • Interprets industry regulatory standards, develops technical policies and procedures, and administers systems with zero tolerance for error.
  • Works with emphasis on identification and fulfillment of customer requirements.
  • Participates on teams that result in contribution to achievement of team goals and objectives.
  • Perform responsibilities as directed, within determined time frames, and with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department and the company.
  • Enhances job knowledge and abilities, by taking personal responsibility for professional development and training.
  • Maintains sensitive and confidential information regarding the company.
  • Understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations.
  • Partners and coordinates with multi-platform business and technical colleagues, on project implementations.

Qualifications

Network Engineer 1:

0-3 years basic experience with voice and data networking, or general telecommunications experience.

Technical skills including programming, installation, configuration, and data base management.

Basic analysis and design skills involving the ability to gather data on systems issues, define alternative approaches, assess business impact, recommend cost-effective solutions, and develop and implement those solutions.

Basic knowledge of current technologies, tools, applications, and vendors.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Network Engineer 2:

At least 4 years telecommunications network experience.

Good understanding of network planning or analysis.

Demonstration of technical knowledge, and a growing knowledge of the company's information systems and infrastructure design.

Network Engineer 3:

At least 8 years telecommunications network experience.

Expert-level understanding of network planning or analysis.

Has held Lead or Technical SME role on major telecommunications projects or operations.

Demonstration of technical knowledge, and a growing knowledge of the company's information systems and infrastructure design.

Advanced enterprise networking fundamentals, including complex switching and routing knowledge, high availability system designs skills, advanced network security design skills, Internet services and protocols knowledge, and advanced network diagnostics capabilities.

Ability to be on-call 24/7 to provide on-site or remote support.

Education (All Levels):

Bachelor (Typically four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

Preferred Degree

Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Mathematics
