Senior Cloud FinOps Analyst
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Cloud FinOps Analyst to lead financial management and optimization across a hybrid technology estate spanning cloud, on-prem, and SaaS environments, with a primary focus on AWS. This role owns the financial rigor of the cloud program transforming usage data into actionable insights, measurable savings, and predictable forecasts across engineering, finance, and leadership teams.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience with AWS cost data, scalable FinOps practices, and cross-functional leadership to drive accountability, optimization, and governance at scale.
Key Responsibilities
FinOps Data & Analytics
Own and govern the FinOps data layer, including AWS CUR and usage pipelines, leveraging enterprise cost platforms and/or custom-built tooling
Define data schemas, SLAs, and FOCUS-aligned datasets to ensure consistency and auditability
Achieve and maintain 99%+ cost allocation coverage through tagging standards, account structures, and metadata governance
Snowpack / Chargeback
Design and refine allocation models across products, business units, and environments
Publish monthly snowpack/chargeback statements, resolve allocation disputes, and drive financial accountability
Track budget vs. actuals and unit-economics KPIs to support engineering and finance decision-making
Forecasting & Financial Planning
Deliver driver-based forecasts by product and business unit
Build scenario models to assess roadmap changes and architectural decisions
Produce monthly variance analysis and insights for FP&A and engineering leadership
Cost Optimization at Scale
Develop automation, standards, and playbooks for rightsizing, scheduling, storage tiering, and data transfer optimization
Partner with platform and engineering teams to validate, implement, and track optimization initiatives
Measure and report verified savings and efficiency gains
Commitment & Commercial Strategy
Lead AWS Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and Compute Usage Discount (CUD) strategy, including renewals
Define coverage and utilization targets and monitor performance
Partner with procurement and vendors to negotiate commercial terms
Governance & Guardrails
Establish tagging standards, budgets, alerts, and policy-as-code controls
Monitor adherence, report exceptions, and lead corrective actions
Strengthen financial and operational controls across cloud environments
Anomaly Detection & Incident Response
Operate spend monitoring and anomaly detection
Triage spikes, conduct root cause analysis, and lead post-incident reviews
Implement preventive controls to avoid recurrence
Executive Reporting & Communication
Build concise, role-based dashboards for engineers, finance leaders, and executives
Deliver quarterly executive narratives covering savings, risks, investments, and trends
Program Leadership
Define OKRs and roadmap for the FinOps function
Run backlog management and operational ceremonies
Mentor team members and grow a FinOps community of practice aligned with the FinOps Framework (Inform, Optimize, Operate)
Qualifications
5 8+ years of experience across FinOps, Cloud, FP&A, or Platform Engineering
3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS cost tooling (CUR, Cost Explorer, Budgets)
Strong SQL skills and proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python preferred)
Experience with data orchestration tools (Glue, Lambda, dbt, Airflow)
Proven ownership of FinOps programs managing $50M+ in annual cloud spend
Hands-on experience with Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and CUD strategy
BI and visualization experience (Power BI, Quick Sight, Looker)
Experience with at least one FinOps or TBM platform (Cloud Zero, Apptio, Cloud Health, Harness, Flexera)
Preferred / Nice to Have
FinOps Certified Practitioner or Professional
AWS Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect (or equivalent experience)
Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform billing and cost export experience
Snowflake or Databricks cost optimization
TBM / Apptio experience
Policy-as-code tools (Cloud Custodian) and Infrastructure-as-Code awareness (Terraform)
Accounting and close processes (accruals, SOX)
Procurement and vendor negotiation experience
