Rancher and Kubernetes SME-Princeton, NJ-08540 (Onsite) Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Rancher & Kubernetes Subject Matter Expert (SME) to design, architect, support, and optimize enterprise-grade Kubernetes environments managed via Rancher. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in Kubernetes control plane operations, etcd, networking (CNI), storage (CSI), and multi-cluster architecture across on-prem and cloud platforms.

The ideal candidate will serve as the L3 escalation point, lead high availability architecture, implement GitOps workflows, and enforce security best practices across clusters.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & deploy Rancher-managed Kubernetes clusters (RKE/RKE2/K3s, EKS, AKS, GKE)

Architect High Availability (HA) Rancher setups

Manage multi-cluster & multi-tenant environments (RBAC, Namespaces, Projects)

L3 support for production issues:

  • Control plane failures
  • etcd performance/corruption
  • CNI (Calico/Cilium) networking
  • CSI storage (Ceph, Longhorn, EBS, Azure Disk, NFS)

Implement Rancher RBAC, AD/LDAP/Azure AD/SSO integration

Enforce Kubernetes security best practices (PSS, Network Policies, Secrets)

Enable GitOps & CI/CD integration (Argo CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)

Support Helm charts & application troubleshooting

Required Skills:
  • 6 10+ years Linux / Infrastructure / Cloud
  • 3 5+ years Kubernetes production experience
  • Strong Rancher expertise (RKE / RKE2 / K3s)
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes Control Plane, etcd, CNI, CSI
  • Experience with VMware, Bare Metal & Cloud environments
