Join the Maps Developer Platform team to build tools and technologies that help developers create advanced mapping solutions using native platform technologies.
Description:
As a Native Platform Engineer, you will work at the intersection of system frameworks, developer tools, and mapping technology. You will help build the APIs and tools that power the developer mapping experience, taking new features from concept and design through implementation and launch.
You will also collaborate with teams across various applications and services, including location tracking, weather, photography, and third-party developer platforms, to deliver impactful mapping solutions.
Responsibilities:
• Elicit requirements from our clients and translate them into scalable, reliable code.
• Design, review and implement 3rd party developer APIs & Tools.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Human Interaction Design, Services, and other Engineering and Data teams.
• Develop, launch, and maintain cross-platform features that integrate Maps with the Apple ecosystem.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Proficiency in Swift and/or Objective-C
• Proficiency with SwiftUI and/or UIKit
• Hands-on experience with MapKit and Core Location
• Strong backend and API development experience, including building SDKs or frameworks used by other developers
• Familiarity with system architecture and API design
• Software engineering experience in a production environment
• Proven track record of architecting, developing, releasing and supporting critically important software components
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to explain complex problems clearly and succinctly
• Passion to collaborate and iterate on ideas in a cross-functional team
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's in Computer Science
• Experience writing testable code and familiarity with unit testing frameworks
• Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or other spatial visualization systems
Important Note: The team needs strong backend and API development experience, not UI-focused profiles. Experience building iOS SDKs or frameworks used by other developers is highly preferred.
