Application Analyst – Integrations

Location: Detroit, MI
Experience Required: 8+ Years
Position Level: Senior Application Analyst / Integration Analyst

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Application Analyst – Integrations with a strong combination of technical integration expertise, business systems analysis, application troubleshooting, and business workflow documentation.

The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience analyzing, designing, testing, documenting, and supporting enterprise application integrations using APIs, web services, database connections, middleware, and file-based interfaces.

This role requires someone who can go beyond data mapping and technical integration development to understand end-to-end business processes, identify gaps, challenge requirements, and collaborate directly with business stakeholders to deliver effective integration solutions.

Candidates must be comfortable independently investigating application issues, asking probing questions, recommending improvements, and translating complex business requirements into functional and technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Application Integration & Technical Analysis

  • Analyze, design, configure, test, troubleshoot, and support integrations between enterprise applications.

  • Demonstrate hands-on knowledge of integration methods, including REST/SOAP APIs, web services, database integrations, file transfers, and middleware.

  • Understand and document integration architecture, source-to-target mappings, interface dependencies, and end-to-end data flows.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot integration failures, scheduled batch jobs, data synchronization issues, and application interfaces.

  • Perform SQL queries, data validation, reconciliation, root cause analysis, and technical troubleshooting.

  • Collaborate with developers, DBAs, application administrators, vendors, and infrastructure teams to resolve complex integration issues.

Business Process Analysis & Requirements Gathering

  • Work directly with business users to understand operational workflows, business requirements, and application dependencies.

  • Analyze existing business processes and identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation.

  • Translate business requirements into detailed functional and technical integration specifications.

  • Develop and maintain As-Is and To-Be process flows, workflow diagrams, business requirements documents, and integration documentation.

  • Independently challenge assumptions, ask probing questions, clarify requirements, and recommend practical solutions.

  • Ensure integration solutions support actual business operations rather than focusing solely on technical data movement.

Documentation & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Develop detailed integration design documents, interface specifications, data mapping documents, workflow diagrams, and support procedures.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to validate documentation, confirm requirements, and obtain approvals.

  • Clearly explain technical integration concepts and business impacts to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

  • Identify integration risks, dependencies, and potential impacts on downstream applications and business processes.

  • Coordinate with multiple teams to ensure integration solutions meet business objectives.

Testing, Troubleshooting & Production Support

  • Develop comprehensive test plans, test scenarios, test cases, and acceptance criteria for application integrations.

  • Perform System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), regression testing, and end-to-end workflow validation.

  • Validate data accuracy, business rules, interface processing, and application functionality.

  • Investigate production incidents, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and document resolutions.

  • Support application deployments, enhancements, upgrades, and ongoing production operations.

  • Provide knowledge transfer, technical guidance, and training to business users and support teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive IT experience as an Application Analyst, Systems Analyst, Integration Analyst, or related technical professional.

  • Strong hands-on experience with enterprise application integrations and interface troubleshooting.

  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, SOAP web services, SQL, database integrations, file-based interfaces, and middleware technologies.

  • Experience developing functional specifications, technical documentation, business workflow diagrams, and integration design documents.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and document end-to-end business processes and their relationship to application integrations.

  • Experience gathering requirements directly from business stakeholders and translating them into technical solutions.

  • Strong experience with integration testing, test case development, SIT, UAT, and data validation.

  • Experience with batch processing, interface monitoring, production support, and root cause analysis.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to independently investigate issues, ask challenging questions, and recommend improvements.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or Oracle enterprise applications.

  • Exposure to Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing (CC&B), enQuesta, or CityWorks.

  • Experience with utility billing, customer information systems, work management, or municipal enterprise applications.

  • Background in public sector, government, utilities, water/wastewater, or municipal environments.

  • Experience with Oracle SQL/PLSQL, stored procedures, integration middleware, API monitoring, and enterprise application support.

  • Experience with application modernization, system migrations, workflow automation, and legacy system integrations.

  • Master's degree in a related discipline preferred.
