Summary

Description

About the Role

As a Staff DevOps Engineer on NinjaOne's Deployment Engineering team, you are a key member of a smart, forward-thinking, and collaborative DevOps organization. You will own the design, operation, and continuous improvement of NinjaOne's release and deployment pipelines - ensuring that code moves from commit to production quickly, safely, and predictably at scale. This role is focused on the delivery side of CI/CD: building the automation, tooling, and processes that let engineering teams ship confidently and often.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute at both a strategic and hands-on level - architecting deployment automation and release strategy while mentoring others and driving operational excellence. You'll collaborate closely with Development, QA, Security, and Corporate IT teams to ensure our platform's release process remains secure, resilient, and fast.

We're a fast-paced, rapidly growing company, and this role is ideal for someone who thrives on owning the "last mile" of software delivery - turning builds into safe, automated, repeatable production deployments. You'll pioneer deployment strategy for new regions, drive down lead time to production, and build the guardrails that let the company ship with confidence.

Location: We are flexible on remote working from home, if you are located in the USA and reside in one of the following states: CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, and WA. We have physical offices in Austin, TX and Tampa, FL, if you prefer a hybrid option.

We hire the best software engineers, but experience in our stack can't hurt: NinjaOne is built on Java, Kotlin, C++, Golang, and Postgres; supporting millions of user endpoints and running as a scalable cloud service in AWS. Knowing large-scale datastore bottlenecks, asynchronous application design, and client-server architecture will help you.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Own the Delivery Pipeline End to End: Design, build, and continuously improve our continuous delivery (CD) pipelines - from artifact promotion through progressive rollout to production. You are the technical owner of how code gets deployed, not just how it's built and tested.
  • Design Deployment Strategies: Architect and implement progressive delivery patterns - blue/green, canary, and rolling deployments - with automated health checks, gating, and rollback. Reduce lead time to production while reducing deployment risk.
  • Build and Improve CI/CD Pipelines: Lead the development and maintenance of a cutting-edge CI/CD framework, with particular depth on the CD half of the equation - release orchestration, environment promotion, deployment gating, and automated rollback - integrating new testing and automation tools to streamline workflows.
  • Automate Release Management: Build tooling for release orchestration across services and regions, including deployment scheduling, change tracking, feature-flag-driven rollout, and coordinated multi-service releases.
  • Innovative Infrastructure Solutions: Design, develop, and deploy secure, compliant infrastructure in AWS. Drive automation in infrastructure deployments while shaping the long-term technology strategy and planning.
  • Monitor and Support the Delivery Pipeline: Proactively monitor deployment pipelines, release health, and infrastructure alerts/metrics, offering a technical escalation point for production support both during business hours and after-hours. Own deployment-related incident response and rollback decisions.
  • Mentor the Deployment Team: Coach engineers on release engineering, deployment safety, and delivery best practices, growing the team's collective expertise.
  • Other duties as needed.

About You
  • 10+ years of experience working in a cloud-based DevOps environment, specifically AWS, with a strong emphasis on release engineering and deployment automation.
  • Deep hands-on experience designing and operating continuous delivery pipelines - not just continuous integration - including progressive rollout strategies (blue/green, canary, rolling) and automated rollback.
  • Proficient with tools like AWS CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform, and SSM Scripts for managing AWS entities, infrastructure automation, and deployment orchestration.
  • Comfortable with agile tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.), version control systems (Git, BitBucket), and deployment strategies for both iterative and continuous delivery.
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD tools, with CircleCI experience being a plus; strong preference for candidates who have owned the CD/release side of the pipeline, not just build/test automation.
  • Expert in cloud operations, ensuring the scalability, reliability, and maintainability of cloud-native applications through their full deployment lifecycle.
  • Track record of reducing deployment lead time, change failure rate, and time to recovery through automation.
  • Ability to coach and guide a team, fostering skill growth and career development.
  • 7+ years of experience working with *nix operating systems (Linux, MacOS, BSD-variants, IBM AIX).
  • 5+ years of scripting experience with languages like Shell (bash, zsh, etc.), Go, Python, PERL, Tcl/Tk - used to build deployment tooling and automation.
  • 5+ years of experience in production environment monitoring, alerting, deployment observability, and managing change and configuration.
  • Experience with container orchestration and deployment tooling for Kubernetes or ECS (e.g., Helm, Kustomize) is highly desirable.
