HDD Locator to support expanding operations.
Position OverviewThe team is seeking an
OSP Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Locator to work on a four-person crew performing underground telecommunications and utility construction. This includes horizontal directional drilling, conduit and cable placement, mechanical excavation, and ground restoration. The crew consists of a CPM, Locator, Foreman, and Operator.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience locating underground utilities, operating and maintaining horizontal directional drilling equipment (specifically Vermeer 2440), performing test pits, conducting drill maintenance, mixing drilling mud, and supporting all phases of underground placement. Candidates should be confident navigating underground environments and capable of providing direction to support overall project completion.
Travel & Schedule- This role is 100% onsite.
- Light travel is required throughout the tri-state area.
- Overnight stays are expected for jobs located more than two hours away.
- Weekend return is expected; hotel stays are covered.
- Per diem: $45.00/day.
- Schedule: approximately 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM (varies by project).
- Onsite work vehicle provided (no take-home).

Top Skills- 5+ years of OSP Horizontal Directional Drilling and locating experience within underground construction.
- Experience with mechanical excavation, trenching, or duct bank installation.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and teamwork (must be comfortable test-pitting).
Equipment Used:- Vermeer 2440 drill
- F2, F5, and DigiTrak locating equipment
- General support equipment
Industry Background:- Telecommunications experience preferred
- Open to candidates from utility, water, or related construction industries
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience "mixing mud" (drill setup and maintenance).
- Reliable, dependable, and team-oriented.
- Willing to contribute to all crew tasks to support project efficiency (not solely locating).
- Ability to perform daily maintenance on equipment.
- Comfortable working in varying weather conditions.
- Flexible, safety-focused, and committed to high-quality work.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of White Marsh, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $33.00/hr.
