Role: Project Manager -IT Construction & Infrastructure
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid)- Need local Candidates Only

You are a Technical Project Manager with substantial experience supporting construction projects from an information technology perspective. This position will collaborate closely with teams across IT, including Infrastructure, Security, and Applications, as well as with our Real Estate partners and their external contractors, such as low-voltage vendors, general contractors, HVAC contractors, and other project stakeholders. The Project Manager will divide their time between two major initiatives, development of a new building and renovation of an existing building, also located in Mission Bay. In both efforts, the Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating IT planning, implementation, and stakeholder engagement to ensure successful project delivery
What you will be doing:
- IT Infrastructure in Construction Context: You need a solid grasp of Structured cabling (fiber, copper, pathways) Network design for new buildings (IDF/MDF rooms, Wi-Fi coverage) AV systems, security systems (badging, (card readers, security weapons screening, vendor mate visitor access) and cameras
- Telephony: End user devices (workstations, printers, scanners, etc.) Ensure Infrastructure Services standards are communicated to/shared with all vendors to minimize re-work
- Construction & Facilities Basics: You do need to understand Construction phases (design build commissioning turnover) (substantial completion, TCO) Reading drawings (architectural, electrical, low voltage)
- Coordination with real estate, facilities, general contractors, low voltage, subs, and inspectors
- Healthcare & Research Environment Knowledge. HIPAA and data privacy consideration, Clinical workflows (e.g., exam rooms, ORs, labs) Regulatory constraints (e.g., infection control during installs) Specialized systems (nurse call, medical device integration)
- Project Management Methodologies: Traditional (Waterfall) is dominant for construction timelines. Hybrid approaches (Agile for IT systems layered onto construction)
- Familiarity with: PMI / PMBOK (PMP is preferred but not required) Scheduling tools (Smartsheet, Clarity, Jira) Budget tracking and capital project accounting
- Vendor & Contract Management: Managing multiple vendors (low-voltage contractors, IT integrators, AV teams) Understanding SOWs, RFIs, submittals, change orders. Negotiating timelines and deliverable.
- Strong written and verbal skills are required. You'll constantly translate between: IT engineers. Architects & construction teams, Clinical/research/education stakeholders.
- Real Estate/Facilities and operations: Scheduling & Dependency Management. Align IT install timelines with construction milestones. Coordinate install with furniture vendor, working in conjunction with other disciplines that may be working in the space concurrently
- Manage long-lead items (network gear, AV equipment). Avoid rework (e.g., installing before walls are ready)
- Risk management is a key requirement for this role. Identification, documentation, mitigation, and communication of risks is critical to any construction project.
- Common risks include: Construction delays impacting IT deployment, Equipment delivery delays, Compliance or inspection failures. You need to proactively identify and mitigate these
- Technical Communication: Working with various IT teams including Infrastructure Services, translate technical requirements into construction documents. Run effective coordination meetings. Write clear status reports for leadership
What you Bring
- Able to be onsite multiple days per week at different locations in San Francisco (this will fluctuate week over week as the projects progress)
- 8+ years of experience working on construction projects from an IT perspective (network, AV, workstations peripherals, business applications, BMS systems, etc.)
- PMP certification preferred
- Experience with Tools: Project management: MyPPM (Clarity), Smartsheet, Excel, Powerpoint, Chatgpt
- Relevant experience in Infrastructure and construction required
- RCDD certification preferred
- IT construction experience in an academic medical setting is strongly preferred
- Experience in healthcare, research, and/or higher-education capital construction projects
- Familiarity with OSHPD/HCAI (California healthcare construction regulations)
- Understanding of higher education and research lab requirements (high-performance computing, specialized equipment)
- Ability to navigate institutional complexity (multiple stakeholders, governance layers)
- Collaboration Tools: Teams, SharePoint, One Drive, Box, Slack. Design/coordination: Bluebeam Revu, Revit, ACC, ITSM: ServiceNow
