Overview

A leading offshore engineering and marine construction organization is seeking an experienced Senior Hydrographic Surveyor to support offshore energy and marine infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for leading hydrographic survey operations, managing survey teams, collecting and processing hydrographic data, and ensuring accurate deliverables that support offshore construction, marine navigation, and environmental initiatives.

The ideal candidate has extensive offshore survey experience, strong leadership skills, and expertise with modern hydrographic surveying equipment and data processing systems.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead hydrographic survey teams during offshore operations.
  • Plan and coordinate survey activities with project managers, engineers, and client representatives.
  • Conduct pre-survey planning and ensure project objectives, procedures, and safety requirements are met.
  • Operate and oversee hydrographic survey equipment including multibeam echo sounders, GPS/GNSS positioning systems, and related survey technologies.
  • Collect, process, analyze, and validate hydrographic survey data.
  • Prepare and submit survey reports, charts, and project deliverables in required formats.
  • Ensure survey data is properly backed up, documented, and transferred to project teams.
  • Provide technical guidance on hydrographic surveying methods and best practices.
  • Supervise offshore survey operations while maintaining compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate effectively with vessel management, bridge teams, offshore crews, and client representatives.
  • Monitor survey equipment inventory and maintain proper stock control.
  • Support vessel operational planning and resolve survey-related issues.
  • Implement hazard identification, risk assessments, and emergency response procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable maritime and radio communication regulations.
  • Participate in after-hours and weekend on-call rotations as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Geospatial Sciences, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Several years of professional hydrographic surveying experience with offshore or marine construction projects.
  • Experience leading offshore survey teams.
  • Strong knowledge of hydrographic survey methodologies and offshore survey operations.
  • Experience operating multibeam echo sounders, GNSS/GPS positioning systems, and hydrographic data acquisition equipment.
  • Proficiency with hydrographic data processing, quality control, and reporting software.
  • Strong understanding of marine safety standards and offshore operational procedures.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work aboard offshore construction vessels for extended periods.
  • Willingness to travel and work offshore as project requirements dictate.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and on-call assignments.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Hydrographic Surveyor certification or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting offshore wind, dredging, subsea, oil & gas, or marine infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with GIS, CAD, and hydrographic processing software.
  • Knowledge of marine positioning systems and offshore navigation technologies.
