Position Overview
We are looking for a highly experienced Tech Lead / Staff Engineer to drive backend architecture and engineering excellence for a global e-commerce platform. This role is central to building scalable systems that power personalization, checkout, and customer experience.
You will play a key role in evolving the platform from a traditional browse and buy model to a highly personalized, user-centric commerce experience, enabling customer-level insights and intelligent shopping journeys across global markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead backend architecture across e-commerce and personalization platforms
- Design, build, and scale high-performance backend services and APIs
- Drive architectural decisions with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance
- Stay hands-on with coding, contributing to production-level development
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices and code quality standards
- Conduct and guide code reviews across the engineering team
- Collaborate with Product, Frontend, and Business teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions
- Mentor engineers through technical leadership and design guidance
- Lead initiatives around system performance, reliability, and scalability
- Participate in deployments, monitoring, and incident resolution
- Provide clarity and direction in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
Required Qualifications (Must Have)
- Strong expertise in Python backend development
- Proven experience designing and owning large-scale distributed systems
- Deep knowledge of:
- System Design & Architecture
- Design Patterns
- Scalability & Performance Optimization
- Reliability Engineering
- Hands-on experience building high-traffic, revenue-impacting platforms
- Strong problem-solving and technical decision-making skills
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with Amazon DynamoDB
- Strong e-commerce domain experience, especially:
- Experience integrating payment providers such as:
- Stripe
- PayPal
- Apple Pay
- Google Pay
- Amazon Pay
- Understanding of PCI compliance, security, and payment processing standards
- Experience with global/multi-region commerce platforms
Technology Environment
- Backend: Python
- Databases: Relational & NoSQL (DynamoDB preferred)
- Architecture: Microservices, Distributed Systems
