Backend Engineer Manager Integrations

Summary
The Integrations team builds and maintains pipelines that allow customers to seamlessly connect products with third-party systems (e.g., ATS, HRMS, HRIS, communication tools). This role is responsible for defining technical vision, driving execution, and leading a team of engineers building scalable, resilient integrations. The Engineering Manager will partner closely with Product and cross-functional teams to shape the roadmap, mentor engineers, and ensure high-quality delivery at scale.
Core Responsibilities (Must Be Able to Do)
Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, resilient integrations with
third-party systems.
Own the technical strategy, including API design, reusable architectures, and long-term
system evolution.
Partner closely with Product to define the roadmap, success metrics, and delivery
priorities.
Manage, mentor, and develop engineers, setting clear expectations and growth paths.
Drive execution by improving processes, automating workflows, and removing delivery
friction.
Maintain a strong engineering culture focused on quality, ownership, and reliability.
Stay hands-on when needed to guide technical decisions and unblock the team.
Leverage AI tools and automation to improve team velocity, quality, and operational
efficiency.
Must-Have Requirements (Non-Negotiables)
Leadership & Management
Proven experience managing and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
Strong people management skills, including coaching, feedback, performance
management, and career development.
Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and align cross-functional stakeholders.
Technical / Functional Skills
Strong backend engineering background with experience in modern stacks (Node.js,
Ruby, microservices, APIs).
Experience designing scalable, production-grade systems and integration platforms.
Solid understanding of authentication, authorization, and distributed systems.
Ability to evaluate architectural tradeoffs and guide teams toward sound technical
decisions.
Experience
7+ years of overall software engineering experience.
2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager or Technical Lead with people
management responsibilities.
Experience owning systems used by enterprise customers.
Background working on integrations, APIs, or platform-style products.
AI Usage (Critical)
Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor) in engineering workflows.
Must be able to provide concrete examples of how AI has been used to:
Improve productivity or delivery speed
Reduce operational overhead
Improve decision-making or code quality
The role expects practical, real-world AI usage, not theoretical familiarity.
