Position: Infrastructure Lab Engineer
Pay Range: $50-$55/hour on W2
Location: Charlotte North Carolina 28262 (Hybrid)
Duration: 12 months, with possible extension.

Overall Need/Innovation Support

• Supporting CIB innovation efforts from the technology side by adding capacity to help LOBs evaluate new technologies and innovation opportunities.
• Work will consist of a series of projects with different innovation needs, so the person must be comfortable working across technologies and use cases.

• The ideal candidate has broad technical knowledge and genuinely enjoys learning and evaluating emerging technologies.

Innovation Lab

• The lab provides an isolated virtual environment where teams can safely evaluate and test technologies without introducing risk to the bank.
• Teams can explore products and develop proofs of concept to better understand the technology and determine whether it provides enough value to justify bringing it into the bank.
• The focus is on technology evaluation, experimentation, and learning rather than traditional production application support.

Ideal Technical Background

• Infrastructure is the core technical skill set for this role.
• Prefer an infrastructure, cloud, endpoint, systems, or lab engineering background rather than primarily software development, DevOps, SRE, CI/CD, or application support.
• Looking for a technology generalist rather than a narrow specialist. Broad knowledge across areas such as infrastructure, cloud, operating systems, databases, AI/ML, networking, identity, virtualization, and emerging technologies is a differentiator.
• Candidates do not need to be experts in every technology, but they should understand enough across different areas to communicate effectively and work with specialized engineering teams.
• Someone with deeper expertise in a specific technology can still be a strong fit if they demonstrate broad technical curiosity and a passion for technology.
• Since the role supports CIB business lines, the person should be able to understand technical needs and translate between business/project teams and infrastructure or engineering teams.

MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION (Requested Skills)

• Prioritize infrastructure, cloud, endpoint, or lab engineering backgrounds with strong customer-facing skills. This role is not primarily focused on software development, application support, CI/CD pipeline management, DevOps engineering, or SRE-focused work.
• Partner with project teams and project managers to translate evaluation needs into appropriate lab requirements and service capabilities.
• Provide guidance on lab offerings, supported platforms, technical constraints, and effective use of the lab environment.
• Troubleshoot technical issues impacting project teams, including operating systems, endpoint platforms, cloud services, connectivity, proxy services, identity, compatibility, and platform integrations.
• Administer and support Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, VMware, Hyper-V, Kubernetes, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform environments used by lab customers.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and operational tasks using PowerShell, Bash, Terraform, or similar tools where appropriate.
• Create and maintain knowledge articles, technical procedures, operational documentation, and service standards.
• Partner with senior infrastructure engineers on larger-scale platform enhancements, new offerings, lifecycle work, and service improvements.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

• 5-7 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, cloud engineering, systems administration, lab engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong customer-facing skills with experience serving as a technical advisor to engineering, architecture, and project teams.
• Experience supporting enterprise environments across on-premises, cloud, SaaS, and end-user computing platforms.
• Hands-on experience supporting Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android platforms, plus broad knowledge of virtualization, compute, storage, networking, identity, and security technologies.
• Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, Kubernetes, container-based technologies, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform; multi-cloud experience preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, documentation, problem-solving, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Self-motivated team player with technical curiosity, adaptability, attention to detail, and a passion for learning emerging technologies.
• Experience supporting innovation labs, proof-of-concept programs, sandbox environments, or pre-production testing platforms.
• Experience supporting AI/ML platforms, emerging technologies, enterprise SaaS solutions, hybrid environments, or multi-cloud environments.
• Experience supporting enterprise networking, identity, proxy, secure connectivity, access management, endpoint management, or infrastructure automation.
• Experience evaluating, integrating, and operationally supporting new technologies with vendors, architects, infrastructure teams, and project teams.
• Industry certifications related to cloud, infrastructure, virtualization, endpoint management, or security are a plus; hands-on experience is most important.
