Our Client is looking to hire an experienced Wire Harness Manufacturing Engineer. Our client is a defense technology company headquartered in Austin, TX, building autonomous surface vessels for the U.S. Navy and allied forces. The company entered production in February 2025 and has scaled its manufacturing engineering team rapidly to support growing vessel production demand.
They is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Wire Harness Manufacturing Engineer to join its production-focused team. This is a critical role responsible for managing the manufacturing and assembly of individual wire harnesses and cables. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in wire harness production, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to standardizing and improving manufacturing processes in a high-volume, high-mix environment. They run approximately 100-150 unique harness part numbers - candidates who have only owned a narrow set of harness types are likely insufficient for the scope of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the manufacturing and assembly processes for individual wire harnesses and cables.
- Lead and execute electrical testing projects including Cirris, high-pot, and resistance testing.
- Design and create form boards and fixtures to enhance assembly efficiency and standardization.
- Disposition non-conforming products and implement effective root cause analysis for harnessing defects.
- Manage engineering change orders and engineering change notices related to wire harness production.
- Interpret complex electrical schematics and engineering drawings to guide manufacturing processes.
- Author detailed work instructions for the production floor.
- Manage manufacturing bill of materials for wire harness assemblies.
- Actively engage with the production floor, observing processes and taking initiative to identify and implement improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered in place of a degree. - 3 to 10 years of relevant experience in wire harness manufacturing and assembly in a high-volume, high-mix environment.
- IPC-620 certification is a mandatory requirement.
- Proven experience in work instruction authoring.
- Strong ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Demonstrated experience in root cause analysis specifically within harnessing.
- Proficiency in manufacturing bill of material management.
- Hands-on experience with wire harness tools and processes including crimping, soldering, and test equipment such as Cirris and high-pot testers.
- US Person status required.
- Austin, TX on-site required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with 3D modeling software such as CATIA or similar for navigating models and assisting in work instruction creation.
- Familiarity with form board design and creation.
- Proactive floor presence and willingness to engage directly with technicians to drive process improvements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
This role requires genuine wire harness manufacturing experience - cutting, stripping, pinning, crimping, soldering, and testing. Candidates who have primarily integrated completed harnesses into assemblies (integration experience) rather than building the harnesses themselves are not the right fit and should not advance.
