Duration: Initial contract term of 6 months, with an opportunity for conversion to a full-time role

Position Summary:

The Production Support Java Software Developers contribute to the reliability, capability, and efficiency of core business operations. The support and maintenance portfolio includes a variety of critical, ongoing systems, ranging from processing monthly payments through banking institutions and enhancing online services for members to reengineering legacy client-server applications into modern intranet web applications.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a vital member of the dedicated Production Support Team.
  • Focus on ensuring system uptime, diagnosing complex production issues, and deploying critical patches and enhancements instead of rigid sprint cycles.
  • Work closely with a team of 4-7 technical peers, led by the agency's business and technology leaders, and an experienced Technical Lead to ensure team success.
  • Work across the entire application stack to troubleshoot, patch, and optimize systems.
  • Dive into every tier of an application as a full-stack generalist.
  • Automated Testing & QA: Write and maintain test scripts to prevent regressions.
  • User Interface & Controller Logic: Tweak front-end views and manage application flow.
  • Back-End Services & Database Operations: Tune queries, fix APIs, and ensure data integrity.

Skills Required:

  • Required technical expertise includes expert-level hands-on knowledge of Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Spring Security, Oracle databases, JSP, Apache Tomcat, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, Git/GitHub, and Maven.
  • Familiarity with Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Familiarity with all facets of the software development lifecycle.

Education Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree is highly desired, preferably in Software Development or Information Technology.
  • Participation in continued education will be considered a plus.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of five years' working experience in Information Technology.
  • 5+ years as a Java Developer.
  • Minimum of three years developing Java web applications or web services.

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience in systems analysis, application design, quality assurance, and the coordination of multiple enterprise systems to achieve overall system functionality.
  • Experience in software vulnerability remediation.

Additional Information:

  • This is a contract-to-hire position, and all candidates must be eligible to convert to a Full-Time State Employee after 6 months.
  • The State is unable to sponsor any visas.
  • Candidates must be currently authorized to work in the United States and able to change employers without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, either now or in the future.

  • Candidate must be local to Arizona.
  • Local only to Phoenix.
  • This is an in-office position, 40 hours per week.
  • 100% onsite, with the opportunity to go remote once the resource converts to FTE.
  • A Windows workstation will be assigned for remote access to the agency-related work.
  • The deployment pipeline, issue tracking, and support methodologies are rooted in modern DevOps concepts and managed via Atlassian Jira.

  • Over time, troubleshooting and development skills will broaden and remain current because production systems depend upon modern versions of Java 8/17+, the Spring Framework, Oracle databases, Apache Tomcat, jQuery, Bootstrap, Cucumber, and Selenium.
