Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe System Programmer / Storage Administrator with 12+ years of professional experience supporting z/OS, DB2, IMS, and ISV products. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in software installation and upgrades, DB2/IMS database management, SMP/E, IBM and Broadcom products, production support, disaster recovery, and operational resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, upgrade, and maintain DB2 and IMS versions and associated software products.
- Perform SMP/E and non-SMP/E installations of ISV products.
- Configure DB2 and IMS subsystem parameters and optimize system performance.
- Manage DB2 and IMS utilities and monitor database health and application objects.
- Implement DB2/IMS security controls and coordinate application access with DBA teams.
- Support SOX audits and compliance activities for database objects.
- Lead service restoration and troubleshoot DB2 and associated software issues.
- Maintain baseline operations for DB2 test and production environments.
- Participate in disaster recovery exercises and improve business continuity and operational resilience.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks to reduce manual intervention.
- Coordinate database enhancements with application and system teams.
- Develop project plans for upgrades, maintenance, and decommissioning activities.
- Define project task lists, dependencies, prerequisites, and timelines for stakeholders.
- Create technical roadmaps and communicate project status to delivery and customer teams.
Mandatory Technical Skills
- 12+ years of experience as a Mainframe System Programmer in z/OS and ISV environments.
- Strong expertise in SMP/E and Non-SMP/E installation of ISV products.
- IBM and Broadcom software product installation and upgrades.
- Expert-level DB2 and IMS database management and utilities.
- DB2 V12 or later upgrade experience.
- IMS V15.5 or later upgrade experience.
- Strong JCL and IBM Utilities experience:
- IEBGENER
- IEBCOPY
- AMASPZAP
- DF/DSS
- Strong ISPF/TSO knowledge.
- Basic REXX/CLIST knowledge.
- Experience creating upgrade, maintenance, and decommissioning project plans.
- Strong understanding of disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational resilience.
