SQL Performance Engineer ( local to New jersey & W2 Candidate only )

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Performance Engineer with 8 10+ years of experience in SQL Server database development, performance optimization, production support, and data integration.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in SQL Server, T-SQL, performance tuning, database design, SSIS/ETL, data migration, security, and high-availability solutions. This role will be responsible for optimizing enterprise database environments, supporting production systems, and leading complex data integration and migration initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, functions, and database objects.

• Perform SQL Server performance tuning, including query optimization, indexing, execution plans, partitioning, and database monitoring.

• Monitor and troubleshoot production SQL Server environments to ensure high availability, performance, reliability, and data integrity.

• Design and maintain scalable database schemas, data models, and data structures.

• Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot SSIS/ETL packages for data migration, transformation, and integration.

• Lead and support data migration and integration projects across multiple systems and platforms.

• Implement and maintain database security, backup/recovery, replication, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions.

• Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend solutions to improve database efficiency and scalability.

• Ensure data quality, governance, compliance, and reporting accuracy.

• Provide technical leadership for database management, reporting solutions, and ERP/data integrations.

• Collaborate with developers, architects, business teams, and infrastructure teams to resolve complex database issues.

• Participate in production deployments, root-cause analysis, and ongoing database optimization.

• Leverage AI-assisted development and productivity tools where appropriate.

Required Skills

• 8 10+ years of experience in SQL Server/database engineering.

• Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL.

• Extensive experience with SQL performance tuning and optimization.

• Strong knowledge of query execution plans, indexing, partitioning, and performance monitoring.

• Hands-on experience with SSIS and ETL development.

• Experience with database design, schema development, and data modeling.

• Strong experience in data migration, integration, and troubleshooting.

• Experience with database security, backup/recovery, replication, and high availability.

• Strong production support and troubleshooting experience.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or other reporting tools.

• Experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, or similar technologies.

• Experience supporting ERP integrations and enterprise data environments.

• Knowledge of data governance and data quality practices.

• Exposure to Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, or other AI-assisted development tools.
