Hybrid 3 days in office/week in St. Louis, MO

Our client is a leading regional retailer and ranks among the top privately held organizations in the United States. The team focuses on emerging technologies that advance in-store automation, digital shelf capabilities, and item integration. This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Rate: $70.00 to $80.00/hr. w2

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
  • Serve as technical lead and mentor for developers and analysts on the Emerging Technologies team.
  • Partner with enterprise architecture to define technical strategy, architecture standards, and modernization initiatives.
  • Design, develop, and maintain integrations and applications using .NET Core, Python, Talend, RESTful APIs, Oracle, and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Lead proofs of concept and pilot projects for next-generation retail technologies.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new frameworks, platforms, and methodologies to future-proof the technology ecosystem.
  • Define best practices for cloud architecture, CI/CD pipelines, testing automation, and API governance.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to align technology strategy with operational and customer experience goals.
  • Ensure scalability, security, and reliability of systems and integrations.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
  • Provide ongoing production support and application maintenance for delivered solutions.

Experience Requirements:

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years in technical leadership or solution design.
  • Proficiency with .NET Core and C# for application development.
  • Experience with Python for application or integration development.
  • Hands-on expertise with Talend or similar ETL/data integration platforms.
  • Strong background in RESTful API and web services design and development.
  • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Cloud platform experience, preferably Google Cloud Platform.
  • Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives from concept through deployment and support.
  • Effective communication, documentation, stakeholder engagement, and mentoring skills.
  • Knowledge of microservices and event-driven architectures (preferred).
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration such as Docker and Kubernetes (preferred).
  • Familiarity with API management and GraphQL (preferred).
  • Understanding of AI/ML concepts and applications (preferred).
  • Exposure to IoT or edge computing (preferred).
  • Experience with modern data engineering practices (preferred).
  • Knowledge of serverless computing and cloud-native frameworks (preferred).
  • Experience with automation and robotic process integration (preferred).
  • Background in retail technology innovations, including digital shelves, smart sensors, robotics, or intelligent store infrastructure (preferred).
