Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tableau Engineer with strong expertise in Tableau dashboard development and SQL. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining enterprise-level reporting solutions using complex, multi-source data.
This role is best suited for a hands-on Tableau professional who can transform complex datasets into intuitive, high-performing dashboards while applying strong SQL, data modeling, and reporting best practices. Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or GitHub Copilot is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop data-driven Tableau reports and dashboards from concept through deployment.
- Develop highly optimized Custom SQL queries to structure, aggregate, and prepare complex datasets for reporting.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of Tableau's order of operations, including extracts, data sources, context filters, cascading filters, and parameters.
- Analyze and troubleshoot slow-performing Tableau workbooks and optimize dashboard performance.
- Shift complex front-end filtering and processing logic into optimized database-level SQL when appropriate.
- Write, tune, and maintain SQL queries across multiple data sources, including data lakes, Redshift, SQL Server, and AWS Athena.
- Perform cross-database joins, data blending, and data transformation to support enterprise reporting requirements.
- Maintain and enhance reporting datasets to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
- Create intuitive, user-friendly dashboards and reporting interfaces.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data, SQL, and Tableau report issues.
- Document report logic, data sources, calculations, and SQL transformations.
- Contribute to visualization standards, style guides, and reporting best practices.
- Develop Python scripts for reporting automation, including dashboard exports and data-processing tasks.
- Integrate Tableau reports with APIs and other technologies such as Python or R.
- Collaborate with AWS data teams to source and prepare reporting data using services such as S3, Glue, and Lambda.
- Support migration of existing Tableau reports to Tableau Online from a report-development and content-publishing perspective.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools and agentic engineering practices to accelerate SQL development, testing, documentation, data preparation, and reporting workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; analytical or technical discipline preferred.
- 5 10+ years of professional experience with strong emphasis on Tableau and SQL.
- Expert-level experience with Tableau Desktop / Tableau Creator.
- Expert-level SQL development, including writing, tuning, and maintaining complex queries.
- Strong experience building enterprise-level Tableau reports and dashboards.
- Strong understanding of data modeling and relational/columnar databases.
- Experience working with multiple data sources and complex datasets.
- Strong understanding of Tableau performance optimization and dashboard development best practices.
- Experience with reporting applications in a professional enterprise environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in an Agile environment.
