Job Summary Burns & McDonnell is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Pipeline Engineer to join our Pipeline & Facilities (P&F) team in the Denver, Colorado, office. The successful candidate will lead and support a wide variety of pipeline engineering projects, contributing to the design and execution of critical infrastructure for clients across diverse industries, including natural gas transmission, renewable natural gas, petroleum pipelines, CO2 and hydrogen pipelines, and pipeline-related facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Design - Lead the design and engineering of pipeline projects from the conceptual phase through completion, including alterations and redevelopments for transmission, gathering and distribution systems.
- Prepare and review a full range of engineering and design deliverables, including routing studies, alignment sheets, stress calculations, hydraulic analyses, material specifications, construction drawings, and bill of materials.
- Route analysis, create KMZ file that will support the pipeline design phases.
- Review pipeline vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers and designers.
- Apply expert knowledge of commonly used pipeline concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the pipeline engineering services industry. Compile studies and reports. Write specifications.
- Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects. Find/develop non-standard design solutions.
- Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project-related data as required by the project managers to verify design compliance with project, client, and industry standards, including constructability.
- Quality review of the construction administration, including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of materials.
- Participate in the development of the project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning. Responsible for the effective management of change orders.
- Design pipeline facilities such as metering and regulating stations, storage field upgrades, and other pipeline facilities.
- Prepare equipment specifications, data sheets, and Requests for Quotes (RFQs); perform technical bid summaries/ Evaluations and provide purchase recommendations.
- Review vendor drawings and data, and interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.
- Apply expert knowledge of commonly used pipeline concepts, practices, codes, and procedures, and devise new, non-standard approaches to solve complex problems.
- Coordination to obtain survey, geotechnical investigations, permitting, and land acquisition
Project Management & Execution - Effectively coordinate all phases of project delivery, including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, invoicing, and closing.
- Lead the development of project scopes, schedules, staffing plans, and budgets, and be responsible for the effective management of change orders.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, etc.) and external stakeholders to obtain surveys, geotechnical investigations, permits, and land acquisition.
- Manage and supervise 3rd-party contractors; review, improve, and approve FEED and detailed design documentation.
- Provide short-term field support during construction, coordinating with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues.
- Lead in preparation of proposals and scope development.
- Support team growth.
Business Development & Client Relations - Build and maintain effective relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors to ensure customer satisfaction goals are met.
- Support business development and marketing initiatives, including participating in sales efforts and leading key pursuits.
- Lead the development of cost proposals, qualification statements, and conceptual designs to achieve stated financial performance targets.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
Mentorship & Quality Assurance - Provide technical guidance, leadership, training, and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
- Perform quality reviews of production drawings and all project-related data to verify compliance with project, client, industry standards, and constructability requirements.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with relevant codes (e.g., 49 CFR 192/195, ASME B31.8/B31.4), standards, and safety regulations.
- Champion adherence to the QA/QC process and advocate for the company and site safety policies.
Qualifications +
Experience: Experience on pipeline projects in Alaska is highly preferred. A minimum of 7 years of related experience in pipeline engineering, design, and construction, or in construction support, is required. Experience with front-end project delivery and EPC projects is strongly preferred.

Education: - Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 7 years of pipeline engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering Technology or related degree from an ABET-accredited program, completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years of pipeline engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
- Or Master's Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering and 6 years of pipeline engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.

Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred.

Technical Knowledge: +
Codes & Standards: In-depth knowledge of pipeline regulations and standards, including 49 CFR Part 192 & 195 and ASME B31.8 & B31.4.

Systems: Working knowledge of Natural Gas and Hazardous Liquids systems, including engineering and construction of transmission, gathering and distribution pipelines.

Software: Hydraulic Simulation Programs (SPS, SFT Products, etc.), Civil 3D, and Stress Analysis Programs.

Skills & Abilities: - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to all audiences.
- Proven ability to lead the discipline design for large projects, delegate tasks, and resolve issues in a collaborative team environment.

- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team-building, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel.
- Must be capable of working under tight deadlines, managing multiple priorities, and adapting to shifting project needs.
Compensation $155,000.00-240,000.00 Yearly
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
