Summary

Title: Software Engineer II [Multiple Positions Available]

Job Location: One M&T Plaza, Buffalo, NY 14203. Position requires in-office work four (4) days every week.

Job Description: Complete and oversee basic to complex systems analysis, design, and development. Play a key role as an individual contributor on complex projects while maintaining an excellent functional understanding of the supported application(s). Direct and monitor less experienced resources and coordinate development tasks on small to large scope projects. Prepare and manage the technical component of project plans. Participate with other Development, Operations, and Technology staff in overall systems development direction from technical analysis to user acceptance testing. Prepare and review test data and execute detailed test plans, completing any required debugging. Evaluate and understand complex interrelationships and effects among programs, interfacing applications, and platforms. Provide highly analytical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing new uses of information technologies to assist business units in meeting strategic objectives. Prepare thorough, clear technical and functional specifications and update systems documentation. Prepare charts, tables, and diagrams to assist in analyzing problems, and review documentation prepared by less experienced staff. Prepare and review assessments to include required tasks, estimated time frames, and effort for any scope project. Maintain efficient operation and effectiveness of supported applications. Recommend new technology, policies, or processes to benefit the organization and improve deficiencies, and may lead or participate in technical evaluations of vendor software. Follow and promote the use of development standards and procedures. Maintain a good understanding of the business being supported and its functions, processes, operations, and strategic direction. May assist in developing expense and capital budgets. Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite, identifying risk-related issues needing escalation to management. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or a related technical field plus five (5) years of experience in the job offered or as Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or related occupation.

Requires five (5) years of experience with each of the following:
  • Building CI-CD pipelines with Jenkins or Azure DevOps for build and code promotion
  • Creating automated deployment pipelines for .NET, Java or open-source applications
  • Integration of automated test suites using Selenium and xUNIT frameworks
  • Integration with repositories including jFrog or Sonatype Nexus for automated builds/deployments
  • Creating and implementing containers on Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift
  • Migrating and managing applications on Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure
  • Creating custom scripts for automation using Python, YAML and Shell scripts
  • Integrate code scanning in pipelines using SonarQube or VeraCode
  • Experience with source control using Azure DevOps, Git, TFS or SVN
  • Experience with automating manual tasks and deployments with Ansible automation
  • Troubleshooting and issue resolution using automated scripts
  • Participating in and driving ceremonies for Agile teams
  • Converting business requirements into detailed design and architecture diagrams
  • Installing, configuring and troubleshooting issues with monitoring tools including Elastic, DynaTrace or Grafana
  • Monitoring and maintenance of server infrastructure through monitoring tools
  • Creating and executing recovery plans for deployment automation
