BMC Control-M/EM Operations Support, Columbus, OH - 100% Remote
Shift: 2nd Shift — 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM
Schedule: Monday–Friday, including every Saturday and Sunday. Some holidays may also be required on a rotational basis. Holiday work will be paid at straight time.
Job Description
The Operations Support (PS1) will be responsible for production batch scheduling, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support across mainframe and distributed/client-server environments.
Approximately 75% of the role will involve scheduling jobs using BMC Control-M/Enterprise Manager (EM), including temporary and permanent modifications to existing job schedules.
The remaining 25% will involve managing, monitoring, and analyzing mainframe and distributed systems batch workloads, troubleshooting job abends, and communicating with programmers and support teams to resolve issues.
BMC Control-M/Enterprise Manager experience is mandatory. Experience with JCL, SDSF, and general Mainframe technologies is preferred. ServiceNow experience is a plus.
Detailed Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Schedule pre-defined jobs using BMC Control-M/EM.
- Manage and maintain calendars within Control-M/EM.
- Make temporary and permanent modifications to existing job schedules.
- Manage batch workloads in a Production Control environment.
- Monitor both mainframe and distributed/client-server applications.
- Identify and resolve common job abends.
- Utilize JCL to troubleshoot and resolve batch-job issues.
- Monitor alert and shout messages and determine the severity of issues.
- Alert appropriate support staff when problems develop.
- Escalate issues to management when SLAs may be jeopardized.
- Document incidents and problems clearly using ServiceNow Incidents and Incident Tasks.
- Communicate effectively with programmers, support staff, and management.
- Use TSO/ISPF to analyze job status and identify batch-job issues.
- Utilize system monitoring tools such as Nagios, IP Monitor, and Tivoli.
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation of production issues and resolutions.
Required Skills & Experience
- 2–5 years of experience with BMC Control-M for scheduling jobs.
- 2–5 years of experience managing batch jobs using BMC Control-M.
- 2–5 years of experience using BMC Enterprise Manager for scheduling batch jobs.
- 2–5 years of experience using BMC Enterprise Manager for managing batch jobs.
- 2–5 years of experience managing batch workloads on AJF for both mainframe and client-server applications.
- 2–5 years of experience identifying and resolving job abends using JCL.
- 2–5 years of experience analyzing alert and/or shout messages, determining severity, and following escalation procedures when SLAs may be jeopardized.
- 2–5 years of experience communicating production issues clearly to support staff.
- 2–5 years of experience documenting production problems and providing detailed written summaries.
- 2–5 years of experience using TSO/ISPF to analyze job status and identify batch-job issues.
- 2–5 years of experience recognizing server problems using Nagios, IP Monitor, and Tivoli.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Advanced experience analyzing and managing batch workloads on AJF using BMC Control-M and Enterprise Manager.
- Strong experience identifying and resolving common abends using JCL.
- Familiarity with batch-job alert and shout messages and established escalation procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Nagios, IP Monitor, Tivoli, TSO/ISPF, JCL, Control-M, and Enterprise Manager or similar job-scheduling tools.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow Incidents and Tasks.
