Vaco is actively seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Engineer – AI Missile Defense for a direct-hire role with a stable and growing organization that’s a leader in their field.


  Ability to obtain Top Secret, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and Polygraph Certification upon hire is also required.


Position Summary

This role supports the design, deployment, and sustainment of a secure hybrid cloud ecosystem powering AI and data-intensive Department of Defense (DoD) system defense platforms.

The engineer will work in AWS environments that support intelligence gathering, real-time analytics, sensor data ingestion (video, radar, IoT), and machine learning workloads including advanced Edge and Cloud-based processing across mission-critical situations.

The position is hands-on and extremely collaborative, working across infrastructure, security, networking, software development, business stakeholders, and DOD partners to deliver scalable, compliant, and resilient military solutions.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, deploy, and maintain secure AWS cloud environments supporting AI utilization, analytics, and real-time data platforms across both commercial and GovCloud ecosystems vas well as classified workloads.
  • Support hybrid cloud infrastructure across commercial and regulated environments
  • Enable infrastructure for systems that process and fuse multi-source sensor data into unified operational views
  • Implement and maintain security controls aligned with regulatory and mission requirements
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code tools
  • Support CI/CD pipelines for platform and infrastructure services in collaboration with engineering teams
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and cost efficiency; troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Contribute to high availability and disaster recovery strategies for critical systems
  • Support containerized and distributed workloads, including edge-processing scenarios where applicable
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable infrastructure for AI-driven applications
  • Document architectures, operational procedures, and system configurations
  • Participate in security reviews, risk assessments, and remediation efforts


Qualifications:
  • 2 years of dedicated experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles and shared responsibility models.
  • Familiarity with AWS networking concepts such as VPCs, routing, and VPN connectivity.
  • Experience with core AWS security and governance services.
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).
  • Basic scripting ability (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to effective prioritize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain government security clearances per specific access level(s).
  • Excellent verbal, written, documentation, and interpersonal communication skills with individuals at all levels of an organization.
