Position Overview
PMC is seeking a mid-level Laser Scanning Technician to support reality capture efforts across a wide range of industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects. This role is primarily field-based and requires extensive travel. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on scanning experience, a solid understanding of survey control, and the ability to operate independently in active jobsite environments.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and quality of data used for downstream BIM, engineering, and design workflows.
Location
- Located in Southeast Michigan
- When not on-site, mostly work from home
- Some in office work for training and equipment maintenance
Key Responsibilities
- Perform terrestrial laser scanning in active industrial and commercial environments
- Establish, verify, and work within survey control using total stations and related equipment
- Execute field scanning plans independently or with minimal supervision
- Coordinate with site personnel to ensure safe and efficient field operations
- Conduct basic field QA/QC to ensure data completeness and accuracy
- Capture supplemental data as required (imagery, notes, measurements, metadata)
- Support drone-based data capture when licensed and authorized
- Travel extensively to project sites, often for multi-day engagements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of professional laser scanning experience
- Demonstrated experience with survey control and total stations
- Strong understanding of coordinate systems, registration concepts, and field best practices
- Proven ability to work independently in the field
- Willingness and ability to travel full-time (typically 70–90%)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work on active construction and industrial sites
Preferred Qualifications
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot License (drone license)
- Experience with industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, or complex MEP environments
- Familiarity with common scanning platforms and software (e.g., Leica, FARO, Trimble, NavVis)
- Strong communication skills for coordination with clients and internal teams
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift and transport scanning equipment
- Comfort working in industrial environments, including elevated platforms and confined spaces
- Ability to comply with site-specific safety requirements and PPE standards
