Location: Houston, TX - Onsite

Duration: Long-Term Contract

Position Overview

We are seeking a senior-level IT Information Governance Lead to establish, mature, and scale the company s Information Governance program from the ground up. This position will reside within the Information Technology organization and will develop the governance strategy, operating model, technology standards, policies, processes, and controls needed to manage enterprise information throughout its lifecycle.

SharePoint and OpenText Documentum are the company s primary enterprise information-management platforms. The successful candidate must have strong experience governing enterprise content within these environments and be capable of assessing their current use, defining future-state standards, and improving how information is classified, secured, retained, searched, archived, and disposed of.

This individual will work closely with IT leadership, application owners, infrastructure and cloud teams, Cybersecurity, Data Governance, Legal, Compliance, Records Management, Engineering, Operations, and other business functions to create a sustainable enterprise Information Governance program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of the enterprise Information Governance program within the IT organization.
  • Assess the company s current Information Governance capabilities, technologies, repositories, processes, risks, and maturity.
  • Develop a multiyear Information Governance strategy, roadmap, operating model, and implementation plan.
  • Establish governance policies, standards, procedures, controls, roles, responsibilities, and decision rights.
  • Serve as the primary IT liaison among Legal, Compliance, Records Management, Cybersecurity, Data Governance, Engineering, Operations, and business stakeholders.
  • Establish an Information Governance council or steering committee and facilitate ongoing governance activities.
  • Assess the current configuration, use, ownership, content structure, security, metadata, retention, and lifecycle controls within SharePoint and Documentum.
  • Develop enterprise governance standards for SharePoint sites, libraries, folders, content types, metadata, permissions, retention, archiving, external sharing, and site retirement.
  • Develop enterprise governance standards for Documentum repositories, document types, metadata, workflows, permissions, retention, archival, and disposition.
  • Define appropriate use cases and system-of-record responsibilities for SharePoint and Documentum.
  • Identify duplicate, outdated, redundant, unmanaged, and high-risk content across SharePoint, Documentum, file shares, email, collaboration platforms, and other repositories.
  • Develop a strategy for repository rationalization, content remediation, migration, archival, and defensible disposition.
  • Establish clear business and technical ownership for SharePoint sites, Documentum repositories, enterprise records, information assets, and supporting applications.
  • Define and implement metadata, taxonomy, information-classification, naming, version-control, and content-organization standards.
  • Establish requirements for records retention, legal holds, electronic discovery, privacy, information protection, archival, and defensible deletion.
  • Incorporate Information Governance requirements into application implementations, platform upgrades, cloud migrations, content migrations, and system-retirement activities.
  • Establish Information Governance checkpoints within IT project governance, architecture reviews, solution design, testing, deployment, and decommissioning processes.
  • Partner with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Documentum, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Application Development, Cybersecurity, and Data teams to implement governance requirements.
  • Evaluate the existing SharePoint and Documentum environments and recommend configuration changes, integrations, tools, or platform improvements.
  • Align Information Governance controls with identity and access management, data-loss prevention, privacy, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and business-continuity requirements.
  • Define governance requirements for artificial intelligence, automation, analytics, and other emerging technologies that access enterprise information.
  • Develop program metrics, key performance indicators, risk measures, dashboards, and executive reporting.
  • Create training, communications, and organizational change-management plans for IT and business users.
  • Lead workshops and working sessions with executives, IT leaders, application owners, technical teams, records personnel, and business stakeholders.
  • Mentor internal resources and establish the processes and capabilities needed to sustain the program.

  • Documentum governance framework
  • Defined platform roles and system-of-record responsibilities
  • Enterprise Information Governance strategy and operating model
  • Multiyear implementation and maturity roadmap
  • Roles, responsibilities, and RACI matrix
  • Information Governance council charter
  • Policy, standards, and technical-controls framework
  • Information classification, taxonomy, and metadata standards
  • Records-retention and disposition framework
  • Legal-hold and defensible-disposition processes
  • Site and repository provisioning standards
  • Access, permissions, and ownership standards
  • Repository rationalization and content-remediation plan
  • Content migration, archival, and system-retirement standards
  • Technology and tooling recommendations
  • Training and change-management plan
  • Program metrics and executive dashboard

Required Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of experience in Information Governance, IT governance, enterprise content management, Records and Information Management, data governance, information lifecycle management, or a related discipline.
    Demonstrated experience building, transforming, or significantly maturing an enterprise Information Governance program.
  • Strong experience working within an enterprise Information Technology organization.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft SharePoint and enterprise content-management platforms.
  • Strong understanding of document management, records management, metadata, taxonomy, workflow, access controls, retention, archival, legal holds, and disposition.
  • Experience governing structured and unstructured information across multiple enterprise repositories.
  • Experience developing governance strategies, operating models, policies, standards, technical controls, retention programs, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Ability to translate legal, regulatory, operational, records-management, and business requirements into actionable IT standards and technical controls.
  • Experience integrating Information Governance requirements into IT projects, application implementations, cloud migrations, content migrations, and system-retirement activities.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional programs involving IT, Legal, Compliance, Records Management,
  • Cybersecurity, Data Governance, Engineering, Operations, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong executive communication, workshop facilitation, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to operate as both a strategic program leader and a hands-on practitioner.
  • Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Information Management, Business, Legal Studies, Library or Information Science, or a related field.
  • Ability to work onsite in Downtown Houston.

Preffered

  • Direct experience administering, governing, architecting, or transforming OpenText Documentum environments.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365, Teams, Microsoft Purview, and related information-protection and records-management capabilities.
  • Experience defining the appropriate division of content, records, and business processes between SharePoint and Documentum.
  • Experience with Documentum-to-SharePoint, SharePoint-to-Documentum, or other enterprise content migrations.
  • Experience managing engineering documents, technical records, drawings, operating procedures, maintenance records, project documentation, and controlled documents.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture, application portfolio management, IT service management, cloud governance, and system-development lifecycle practices.
  • Experience coordinating Information Governance with cybersecurity, privacy, artificial intelligence, cloud transformation, and digital initiatives.
  • Relevant certifications such as IGP, CRM, CIP, CIPP, CIPM, CDMP, Microsoft, OpenText Documentum, or comparable credentials.
  • Experience preparing governance programs for internal audits, regulatory reviews, litigation readiness, or compliance assessments.
