Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

CMK Resources is seeking a senior-level Site Reliability Engineer with strong architectural capability who can design reliability into the platform—not merely operate it.

This role is responsible for taking high-level reliability initiatives (e.g., enterprise observability strategy, active-active resiliency patterns, fault tolerance models) and decomposing them into structured execution plans. The consultant will translate conceptual SRE themes into concrete workstreams, engineering tasks, phased delivery plans, and measurable outcomes that can be executed by engineering teams.

This is a 0->1 design and decomposition role: define the architecture, create the roadmap, structure the execution model, and govern delivery to ensure reliability objectives are achieved.

Duration: 5 months (potential extension based on team progress)

Key Responsibilities

• Define platform-level reliability architecture aligned to enterprise goals.
• Design patterns for high availability (HA), failover, active-active and active-passive models.
• Define SLO/SLI frameworks and error budget strategies.
• Establish system reliability reference architectures and decision trees.
• Architect enterprise observability model (metrics, logs, traces, events).
• Create architecture flows for monitoring pipelines and alerting systems.
• Align observability tooling with reliability objectives.
• Translate conceptual reliability themes into actionable backlog items suitable for delivery teams.
• Build reliability roadmap aligned to platform maturity.
• Define phased implementation strategy (e.g., pilot > scale > optimize).
• Establish governance mechanisms to ensure adherence to reliability standards.
• Define KPIs to measure adoption and impact.
• Provide oversight and architectural guidance during execution.
• Partner with platform engineering, DevOps, application teams, and infrastructure teams.
• Provide architectural artifacts that can be handed off for delivery.
• Ensure reliability is embedded into SDLC and platform engineering practices.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years in infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE roles
• Demonstrated experience designing reliability at scale in enterprise environments
• Deep understanding of SLO/SLI and error budget frameworks
• Deep understanding of Distributed systems reliability
• Deep understanding of Active-active / multi-region architectures
• Deep understanding of Observability platforms (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Splunk, New Relic, etc.)
• Deep understanding of Incident management and postmortem processes
• Proven ability to translate architectural concepts into execution-ready plans
• Experience building roadmaps and decomposing large initiatives

Preferred Experience

• Cloud-native architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Kubernetes and container orchestration reliability patterns
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
• DevSecOps integration
• Experience formalizing SRE practices within organizations
