Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Warranty Analysis Engineer with strong automotive engineering and failure-analysis expertise, particularly across transmission, driveline, powertrain, and mechanical systems.

The engineer will perform warranty part analysis, teardown investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action support. This role works closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Service, and Product Engineering teams to improve product reliability, reduce warranty costs, and address recurring field failures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed warranty part analysis and failure investigations on returned field components.
  • Conduct root cause analysis using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, FMEA, and Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Analyze failed automotive components, including:
    • Transmission and gearbox assemblies
    • Axles and driveline systems
    • Powertrain and related mechanical systems
  • Perform component teardown, diagnostics, and failure analysis.
  • Support component disposition activities, including repairability assessment, scrap/rework recommendations, and containment actions.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, and Service teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD documentation, GD&T, material specifications, tolerance stack-ups, and validation/test reports.
  • Analyze warranty data to identify trends, recurring failures, and reliability concerns.
  • Prepare technical reports, failure summaries, and engineering recommendations for leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Support supplier technical discussions and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities focused on warranty reduction and product reliability.
  • Apply automotive quality processes and standards, including APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, and PFMEA.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5–10 years of experience in automotive warranty analysis, product engineering, quality engineering, failure analysis, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of automotive mechanical systems and engineering fundamentals.
  • Hands-on experience with teardown analysis and component diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes, materials, and reliability engineering.
  • Ability to interpret CAD drawings, engineering specifications, GD&T, and test reports.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering/data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work onsite in Auburn Hills, MI.
  • Ability to successfully complete a mandatory background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with automotive OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers.
  • Experience with vehicle diagnostics and field data analysis.
  • Familiarity with automotive warranty systems and quality management tools.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or statistical analysis.
  • Experience with hybrid/electric vehicle powertrain systems.
