Job Title: Senior Software Engineer Python/Perl, Django & Oracle

Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support and maintain the Environmental Information Management System (TEIMS) application suite used by Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) and Environmental Restoration Department (ERD) teams.

This role focuses on troubleshooting, break/fix support, bug fixes, and ongoing maintenance of existing web applications. The engineer will work with business stakeholders and technical teams to resolve application issues, enhance functionality, and support the processing and management of environmental data.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing web applications developed using Perl, Python, Django, JavaScript, SQL, and Oracle.

• Diagnose application issues and develop, test, and deploy bug fixes throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Support legacy application codebases and implement improvements using modern development practices.

• Collaborate with environmental, safety, and health subject matter experts to understand requirements and translate business needs into software solutions.

• Develop and maintain tools for environmental data processing, analysis, management, and archival.

• Work with relational databases, particularly Oracle, to support application functionality and data management.

• Participate in Agile/Scrum development activities and manage work items using Jira and Confluence.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues and maintain application reliability.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent education and experience.

• Significant hands-on software development experience in a team environment.

• Strong experience with Python and/or Perl programming.

• Full-stack web application development experience, including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and frameworks such as Django.

• Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and enhancing existing applications.

• Experience working with relational databases, particularly Oracle and SQL.

• Knowledge of software development lifecycle practices, including coding, testing, debugging, and deployment.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience developing or supporting applications involving environmental, safety, health, or scientific data.

• Experience modernizing legacy applications and codebases.

• Familiarity with Docker, KendoUI, Jira, and Confluence.

• Experience developing hybrid mobile applications using frameworks such as Ionic.
