Job#: 3018585 Job Description: Senior Network Engineer - Juniper Mist Campus MigrationsRemote but must be willing to travelRole OverviewThe Senior Network Engineer is responsible for leading large-scale campus modernization programs, transforming complex legacy Cisco environments into simplified, scalable, cloud-managed architectures powered by Juniper Mist. This role requires deep expertise in routing, multicast, mixed-vendor interoperability, and end-to-end migration execution across multi-site enterprise networks. The engineer will design, plan, and deliver campus migrations leveraging Juniper EX/QFX fabrics, Mist Wired Assurance, and Marvis AI while ensuring service continuity, operational stability, and measurable improvements in visibility and performance.
Key ResponsibilitiesCampus Modernization & Migration Delivery- Lead multi-site migrations from legacy Cisco core/distribution/access designs (EIGRP, STP, HSRP/VRRP, Catalyst access) to Juniper EX/QFX collapsed-core architectures.
- Build and deploy Mist Wired Assurance frameworks, including templates, site profiles, port profiles, and standardized configuration patterns.
- Execute phased cutovers with parallel-run strategies, validation checkpoints, and well-defined rollback plans to minimize downtime and preserve business-critical services.
- Conduct discovery, dependency mapping, and redesign of routing, segmentation, VLAN/VRF structures, and IP addressing schemes.
Routing Architecture & Interoperability- Design and implement enterprise routing using BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP, including redistribution strategy, route tagging, summarization, and policy controls.
- Engineer stable Cisco ? Juniper mixed-vendor cores using eBGP/iBGP, OSPF adjacencies, deterministic redistribution, and policy-driven traffic engineering.
- Ensure routing stability during transition periods, preventing loops, leaks, and unexpected path changes.
Multicast Engineering- Architect and troubleshoot enterprise multicast across campus cores and distribution layers.
- Implement PIM-SM/SSM, IGMP v2/v3, snooping/querier functions, and RP strategies (static or Anycast-RP).
- Maintain multicast continuity for voice/video, conferencing, IPTV/digital signage, OT/industrial systems, and discovery-based applications during migrations.
Legacy Cisco Assessment & Translation to Junos- Analyze existing Cisco environments (STP domains, EtherChannel, HSRP/VRRP, ACL/QoS, multicast dependencies, WAN handoffs).
- Translate Cisco constructs into Junos equivalents (ACLs vs prefix-lists, route-maps vs policy-options, VRF-Lite, ECMP, MTU/QoS alignment).
- Ensure clean interop between legacy and modernized cores throughout the migration lifecycle.
Operationalization & Documentation- Produce HLDs, LLDs, as-built documentation, runbooks, and operational guides.
- Support post-cutover stabilization, knowledge transfer, and training for operations teams.
- Define and track KPIs/SLEs to measure migration success and ongoing network health.
Required Skills & ExperienceCore Technical Expertise- Cisco ? Juniper interoperability: mixed-vendor routing design, BGP/OSPF adjacency strategy, redistribution boundaries, route filtering, tagging/communities.
- Routing (expert level):
- BGP: iBGP/eBGP, policy control, communities, summarization, convergence tuning.
- OSPF: area design, ABR/ASBR roles, LSA control, authentication.
- EIGRP: migration patterns, stub design, filtering, summarization.
- Multicast: PIM-SM/SSM, IGMP v2/v3, snooping/querier, RP/Anycast-RP, boundary controls, end-to-end flow troubleshooting.
- Migration execution: parallel-run, phased cutovers, validation criteria, rollback plans, change control.
- Segmentation & addressing: VLAN/VRF mapping, IP renumbering, DHCP/DNS dependencies, voice/video/OT considerations.
- Mist platform delivery: Wired/Wireless Assurance onboarding, switch/AP turn-up, templates/variables, SLE-driven acceptance.
- Operational readiness: documentation, runbooks, training, stabilization plans, KPI/SLE tracking.
