Hard Requirements

• Deep MS SQL Server expertise internals, proactive monitoring, performance/statistics analysis
• Can spot emerging issues before they become problems

• CockroachDB and/or PostgreSQL ( would really like someone with at least 1, if not must have that mentality that will learn it)
• Flink/Kafka data pipeline experience
• Sybase (client decommissioning target Q2 next year)

SUMMARY
Our client is seeking a senior-level Enterprise Database Engineer with deep MS SQL Server expertise to design, manage, and modernize the organization's database architecture. This role owns database performance, uptime, security, and governance, while bringing modern, distributed database and pipeline skills as a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, implement, and manage integrated database systems and architectures across relational and distributed models. Aim for RDBMS agnosticism and weigh cloud vs. on-premises solutions.
• Design strategies for OLTP systems, data warehouse systems (EDW), and multidimensional networks; set database operations standards.
• Design scalable data infrastructure, including data pipelines, data lakes, delta lakes, and data lakehouses.
• Administer, monitor, and maintain databases for data integrity, performance, efficient storage, and improved uptime/scalability.
• Implement security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Support data governance plans to ensure data quality and consistency.
• Establish backup and recovery strategies to prevent data loss or breaches.
• Partner with developers to integrate databases into applications and IT infrastructure, adopting new architectures as needed.
• Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and related techniques.
• Identify and resolve database issues, including performance bottlenecks and security vulnerabilities.
• Create and maintain documentation for database designs, procedures, and standards.

REQUIREMENTS

• 5+ years - DBA experience with MS SQL Server, including SQL Server internals, proactive performance monitoring, and query/index tuning.
• Able to identify emerging performance issues before they impact production.
• SQL scripting, stored procedures, and triggers.
• Linux and Windows shell scripting and crontab jobs for monitoring resource usage.
• Deploying and maintaining containerized applications.
• On-premises-to-Cloud data flows.
• SSIS deployment.
• Network connectivity across multi-platform environments.
• Production support background in a 24x7 environment.
• Works independently with limited supervision.
• Manages multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Collaborates well across disciplines and technical skill levels.
• Explains complex technical concepts clearly, verbally and in writing.
• Communicates tactfully with department heads, managers, coworkers, and vendors.

BONUS

• Sybase experience.
• DBA experience with distributed databases; PostgreSQL and/or CockroachDB is a strong plus.
