Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for an Safety Specialist for a Full Time placement with one of our premier Utility Industry clients in San Jose, CA .

The Safety Program Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs across the organization. This role helps ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, promotes safe work practices, supports field operations, and provides guidance on safety procedures and requirements.

The position works closely with cross-functional teams to support enterprise-wide safety initiatives, conduct program assessments, analyze safety performance, and drive continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs such as defensive driving, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fire protection, CDL compliance, and other regulatory programs.
  • Conduct safety program assessments and recommend improvements to compliance and effectiveness.
  • Recommend engineering, administrative, and procedural controls to reduce workplace hazards.
  • Provide guidance to employees and leadership on safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations.
  • Analyze safety data, injury and illness trends, and leading indicators.
  • Review communications to ensure alignment with safety policies and standards.
  • Develop, revise, and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Conduct or support Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments.
  • Participate in safety committees, working groups, and training initiatives.
  • Support onboarding and employee safety training activities.
  • Collaborate with contractors and consultants on program development and training.
  • Participate in safety reviews for construction, capital projects, and operational initiatives.
  • Represent the organization in meetings related to project planning and safety.
  • Support additional safety and compliance initiatives as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, state safety requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Experience developing and implementing safety programs in a utility, construction, industrial, or similar environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to influence, engage, and work with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing deadlines and conditions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
Preferred Skills
  • Leadership or program management experience.
  • Experience supporting safety reviews for construction projects, operational initiatives, or capital projects.
  • Experience conducting Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Experience working with contractors, consultants, and cross-functional teams on safety initiatives.
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental health and safety compliance.
  • Experience in utilities, construction, industrial, or related environments.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments.
