Description:Senior Product Owner - Marsh McLennan
Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)
Role overview As a Senior Product Owner at Marsh McLennan, you will own the product lifecycle for carrier-focused and digital servicing capabilities that power Marsh client experiences and carrier partnerships. You will translate business strategy into a clear product roadmap, manage a data-driven backlog, and partner with internal teams and external carriers to deliver high-value solutions. You will lead cross-functional teams, drive adoption and value realization, and champion the use of AI to unlock measurable outcomes in underwriting, policy servicing, and claims workflows.
Key responsibilities
- Define and own the product vision, strategy, and multi-quarter roadmap for carrier-facing platforms and policy servicing enhancements.
- Translate business needs into well-formed epics and user stories with clear acceptance criteria; maintain an prioritized backlog aligned to business impact and strategic goals.
- Collaborate with carriers, Marsh business units, IT, Data & Analytics, Underwriting, Claims, and Digital / Experience teams to design, build, test, and launch features that improve client experience and operational efficiency.
- Lead Agile product development cycles (Sprints/Program Increments), facilitate backlog grooming, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives; coach and mentor junior product owners and analysts.
- Define success metrics (KPIs), monitor product performance, and drive benefits realization through data-driven decision making and iterative improvements.
- Partner with Data Science and AI teams to identify AI-enabled opportunities (predictive modeling, automation, NLP/IR for policy documents, chatbots, anomaly detection); translate business problems into AI-driven solutions; ensure governance, risk management, and ethical use of AI.
- Ensure regulatory, privacy, and security compliance within product design; collaborate with Legal and Compliance to implement controls and reporting.
- Manage stakeholder communications, roadmaps, and progress reporting to senior leadership and carrier partners; balance competing priorities and communicate trade-offs effectively.
- Own go-to-market and enablement plans for new capabilities; drive adoption, training, and change management with internal and external users.
- Stay current on industry trends, competitive landscape, and Marsh's strategic priorities; advocate for innovation and continuous improvement.
Required qualifications
- 5-7+ years of product management or product ownership experience, preferably in insurance, carrier management, or financial services.
- Deep knowledge of insurance carriers, carrier workflows, rating, underwriting, policy administration, and policy lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated success delivering digital products or platforms that involve carrier partnerships, API integrations, data exchanges, or policy servicing.
- Strong Agile delivery experience (Scrum/SAFe); ability to manage backlog, write user stories, define acceptance criteria, and guide teams through complex programs.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with business units, carriers, IT, data/analytics, and external vendors; excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience with data governance, data privacy, and security considerations in product design.
- Advanced quantitative and analytical capabilities; proficiency in defining metrics, analyzing data, and making data-driven decisions.
- Experience with AI/ML initiatives in a product context; ability to translate business problems into AI opportunities and work effectively with data scientists and engineers.
- Bachelor's degree; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Preferred qualifications
- Familiarity with policy administration systems (e.g., Guidewire, Duck Creek) or other core insurance platforms.
- Experience deploying AI-enabled features such as automated document processing, chatbot assistants, predictive analytics for risk scoring, or claims automation.
- Certifications such as CSPO, PSPO, PMI-ACP, or relevant product management or agile certifications.
- Proficiency with product analytics tools, Jira/Confluence, and data visualization platforms (Tableau, Power BI).
Skills and capabilities
- Carrier knowledge: deep understanding of carrier operations, partnerships, pricing/rating dynamics, underwriting processes, and policy servicing workflows.
- AI literacy: ability to identify, scope, and prioritize AI opportunities; comfort coordinating with data science teams; awareness of governance and ethical considerations for AI.
- Product development discipline: roadmaps, backlog management, user story writing, acceptance criteria, MVP definitions, experimentation and A/B testing, release planning.
- Regular skills: strategic thinking, leadership, collaboration, negotiation, adaptability, problem-solving, clear written and verbal communication, influencing without authority, conflict resolution.
- Technical acumen: familiarity with APIs, data exchanges, cloud concepts, data privacy and security controls; basic SQL or data querying helpful.
- Change management: ability to drive user adoption, training, and enablement; strong stakeholder engagement and communication plans.
- Regulatory and risk awareness: knowledge of relevant insurance and data privacy regulations; proactive risk mitigation in product design.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance); advanced degree or certifications preferred.

Office-based teams will identify at least one "anchor day" per week on which their full team will be together in person.
The applicable base salary range for this role is $109,100 to $218,100.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
