Job SummaryThis senior Specialty Software Engineer role will support the
Check Modernization program, which processes
5 million+ checks nightly for billions of dollars in transaction value. The engineer will work as a full member of an Agile scrum team, contributing hands-on to the application modernization effort as the organization transitions from
mainframe to cloud.
The role requires strong Java and Spring Boot expertise, distributed systems experience, event-driven architecture familiarity, and comfort working in a modernization program with high reliability and throughput requirements.
As part of a large multi-year consolidation effort (27 applications reducing to 4), the engineer will focus primarily on one application and one scrum team dedicated
100% to modernization work.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities- Develop and enhance Spring Boot Java microservices for large-scale modernization.
- Build integrations using Kafka, JMS, REST APIs, and cloud-based messaging patterns.
- Support containerized workloads (Kubernetes preferred).
- Collaborate with developers in Columbus and India across 3 scrum teams.
- Participate in story grooming, sprint planning, development, and release activities.
- Troubleshoot production-like issues and help prepare for a future weekend support rotation.
- Work across mainframe-to-cloud transition workflows and modernization pipelines.
- Contribute to cloud deployment design and best practices.
