A remote permanent direct hire opportunity for a Machine Learning Engineer
A fast-growing financial technology organization is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join its Data Science and Credit Risk function. This position is highly engineering-focused and centers on building and operating backend systems that support real-time credit and fraud decisioning. In this role, you will own Python-based services and APIs that drive underwriting and risk evaluation at the core of the business. You will be responsible for deploying decision logic into production, maintaining system performance, and enhancing the platform as new requirements emerge. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working on mission-critical decision infrastructure and wants to deepen expertise in fraud prevention, credit risk, and underwriting technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services supporting credit risk and fraud decision workflows
- Deploy and operate production scoring systems, automated decision rules, and predictive models
- Ensure reliability, performance, and observability of underwriting-related services
- Troubleshoot production issues that impact decision accuracy or service uptime
- Partner with data scientists to safely transition analytics into scalable production systems
- Improve architecture for scalability, resilience, and operational robustness
- Implement monitoring and alerting for system health and decision outcomes
- Collaborate across risk strategy, engineering, and operations teams to deliver real-time decisions
- Build deep expertise in underwriting and fraud decision infrastructure
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- 3+ years of experience in backend, platform, or systems engineering
- 2+ years supporting deployment and operation of machine learning systems in production
- Strong experience building Python-based APIs and service frameworks
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) including deployment, scaling, and monitoring
- Understanding of software engineering best practices: CI/CD, testing, version control, documentation
- Proficiency in Python and SQL with experience across the ML deployment lifecycle, especially monitoring and iteration
- Strong debugging skills and comfort supporting high-impact production services
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across diverse stakeholders
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to fraud systems, credit risk platforms, NLP, or LLM-based solutions
