Genesis10 is currently seeking a Data Engineer for a hybrid position (3 days onsite per week required) with a Global Financial Institution located in Charlotte, NC. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity. The Knowledge / Data Engineer is responsible for building the semantic bridge between process management business language and application Oracle data structures. This role converts business terms, definitions, synonyms, source metadata, and documentation into structured mappings that help GenAI interpret user questions and generate accurate database queries. This position involves approximately 40% deep data analysis and 60% deep Oracle SQL work.
Responsibilities: - Review strategic process inventory documents, data dictionaries, and metadata extracts to identify business terms and domain concepts
- Define clear business definitions for terms and identify synonyms, abbreviations, and commonly used phrases
- Analyze Oracle metadata to understand available schemas, tables, columns, keys, and relationships
- Work with the Data Architect to validate table relationships, materialized views, and performance-optimized access paths
- Create mappings from business terms to Oracle tables, columns, and views to support natural-language-to-SQL generation
- Support the creation of the semantic layer by organizing terms, entities, attributes, metrics, and relationships
- Collaborate with AI Platform Engineers to test whether published mappings are correctly consumed by the GenAI platform
- Validate whether generated SQL uses the correct structures and support iterative improvements based on testing and feedback
Requirements: - 4+ years in data engineering, metadata engineering, semantic layer development, data analysis, or business data mapping
- Hands-on experience working with Oracle database metadata
- Experience connecting business terminology to physical database structures
- Strong SQL skills, especially Oracle SQL
- Intermediate Python for metadata parsing, document processing, mapping automation, and validation
- Working knowledge of YAML / JSON for structured semantic and mapping artifacts
- Experience with tools such as Toad for Oracle, Git, and Excel/CSV
Desired skills: - Exposure to natural-language-to-SQL, semantic modeling, or AI context engineering is strongly preferred
- Experience with enterprise process management systems
- Exposure to GenAI platforms and LLM-based enterprise solutions
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance-driven data environments
- Experience with data catalog tools, vector search, graph databases, or RAG tooling
Pay range: $47.63 - $55.63 per hour
