Description:
Designs, and evaluates major components, or major portions of a functional system, or technically advanced prototype, promotional or specific products. Develop or improve products and collaborates in developing manufacturing operations and processes. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, structures, and products. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
Background Need:
The Group seeks an experienced cable engineer with a background in EE, selection of cable components, wiring diagrams and cable fabrication processes. This engineer will work on a variety of short duration (6-18 month) projects to provide complex and innovative solutions for a number of sensor systems. This engineer must be capable of working well in teams consisting of Subject Matter Experts across many different fields.
This position is specifically for a cable design engineer.

- Design system and unit level electrical interconnection and power distribution schemes in tight collaboration with multiple project teams
- Perform basic design calculations, select appropriate components and hardware
- develop detailed interconnect diagrams of complex systems
- Prepare design concepts, block diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable/harness fabrication drawings utilizing 2D and 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) software
- Support parts identification, procurement, fabrication and system level integration
- Ability to interface with fabrication teams, vendors, and other program team members
Required Skills:
- hands-on, interactive, communicative engineer who is willing to contribute to a diverse set of quick-turn prototyping efforts
- Software/applications:2D and 3D CAD Software (preferably SolidWorks), Cable design software (Mentor Graphics toolsets, Zuken E3 or other).
- Knowledge of electronic design for aerospace applications, including connector selection, wire types/sizes/derating, voltage drops, electro-mechanical packaging, electrical fabrication & assembly techniques
- Knowledge of ASME, IEEE Standards, and NASA standards for selection of hardware interconnects and electronic components
- Specifying, developing, and verifying models and simulations.
- Candidates must be enthusiastic, innovative, and motivated self-starters able to work independently and rapidly within an interdisciplinary group, to achieve quick turn program requirements. They must possess strong oral and written communications skills and must be able to present findings/results to internal and external organizations.
