Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Systems Automation Engineer to lead and support automation initiatives across IBM z/OS environments. This role focuses on migrating legacy automation tools to IBM Systems Automation solutions while enhancing system reliability, availability, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on mainframe automation expertise and a strong operational mindset.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute migration projects from CA OPS/MVS to IBM Tivoli Systems Automation for z/OS, and from CA Automation Point to IBM SAIOM.

• Configure, implement, and maintain IBM Systems Automation solutions, including policy-based automation for z/OS environments.

• Develop, enhance, and support automation rules, REXX execs, and System Automation Policy Database (PDB) configurations.

• Provide installation, configuration, and troubleshooting support for IBM automation products.

• Collaborate with mainframe operations teams to optimize system startup, shutdown, and recovery processes.

• Ensure high availability and operational efficiency through proactive and resilient automation strategies.

• Troubleshoot and resolve automation-related issues in production environments.

• Create and maintain clear documentation for configurations, processes, and migration activities; communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.

Mandatory Skills & Qualifications

• Mainframe Operations: Minimum 5+ years of experience in a mainframe operations, support, consultancy, or services role.

• IBM Tivoli Systems Automation for z/OS: Advanced, hands-on experience required.

• Migration Experience: Proven experience with z/OS automation migration projects.

• REXX Programming: Strong ability to write, maintain, and troubleshoot REXX scripts.

• JCL: Solid expertise in Job Control Language.

• TSO/ISPF: Proficient in day-to-day system management and troubleshooting.

• System Automation Policy Database (PDB): Working knowledge and hands-on usage.

• NetView for z/OS: Experience implementing and supporting NetView environments.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Knowledge of additional IBM Z software, including system operations, configuration, and automation tools.

• Strong understanding of z/OS system startup and shutdown processes.

• Experience with SMP/E for software installation and maintenance.

• Familiarity with competing mainframe automation products and tools.

• Experience designing or supporting fully automated IBM Z system environments.
