Enterprise Architect

Role Summary

The IT Enterprise Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving the organization’s enterprise-wide technology architecture to ensure alignment with business strategy, scalability, security, and long-term sustainability. This role acts as the bridge between business leadership, IT delivery teams, and security/compliance, providing architectural direction across applications, data, infrastructure, and integration platforms.

Key Responsibilities

1. Enterprise Architecture Strategy

• Define and maintain enterprise architecture principles, standards, and reference architectures

• Translate business strategy and objectives into actionable technology roadmaps

• Lead current-state and target-state architecture assessments

• Identify technology gaps, redundancies, and modernization opportunities

2. Architecture Domains Ownership

Provide architectural oversight across:

• Application Architecture

  • Microservices, monoliths, SaaS vs custom build decisions

  • API-first and integration strategies

• Data Architecture

  • Data platforms, lakes/lakehouses, analytics, governance

  • Master data, metadata, lineage, data quality

• Infrastructure & Cloud Architecture

  • Hybrid / multi-cloud strategies

  • Scalability, availability, disaster recovery

• Security Architecture (in partnership with Security teams)

  • Zero Trust, IAM, encryption, compliance-by-design

  • Alignment with frameworks like NIST, ISO, FedRAMP (if applicable)

3. Governance & Standards

• Establish and enforce architecture governance processes

• Review and approve solution architectures for major initiatives

• Define technology standards, patterns, and approved tools

• Ensure architectural consistency across programs and projects

4. Program & Solution Support

• Partner with Solution Architects and delivery teams on complex initiatives

• Provide architectural guidance during design, build, and deployment

• Resolve cross-domain architectural conflicts

• Support vendor selection and technology evaluations

5. Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as a trusted advisor to CIO, CTO, CISO, and business leaders

• Communicate complex technical concepts in business terms

• Facilitate architecture working groups and design reviews

• Influence without direct authority

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field

• Master’s degree preferred but not required

Experience

• 12+ years of IT experience with 5+ years in enterprise or solution architecture roles

• Proven experience designing large-scale, enterprise systems

• Experience working across multiple architecture domains

• Hands-on experience with modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)

Technical Skills

• Enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, or similar)

• Cloud and hybrid architectures

• API and integration platforms

• Data platforms and analytics ecosystems

• Security and compliance fundamentals

• DevOps, CI/CD, and automation concepts

Soft Skills

• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills

• Executive-level communication and presentation abilities

• Ability to balance pragmatism vs purity in architectural decisions

• Leadership without authority

• High tolerance for ambiguity and change

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in regulated environments (government, healthcare, finance)

• Familiarity with NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, HIPAA, or similar frameworks

• Architecture certifications (TOGAF, AWS/Azure Architect, etc.)

• Experience leading large modernization or cloud migration programs
