Network Engineer

Position Summary

Everforth is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to design, implement, secure, and optimize enterprise network infrastructure supporting statewide organizational facilities.

The role requires expertise in:
  • Cisco routing and switching
  • SD-WAN architectures
  • Automation and API-driven operations
  • Zero Trust security frameworks

The engineer will act as a technical lead, mentor junior staff, and participate in network architecture decisions that improve performance, resilience, and security across the statewide network.

Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Engineering
  • Design and implement enterprise network solutions using Cisco IOS/NX-OS, Catalyst, and Nexus platforms.
  • Architect resilient WAN/LAN infrastructures including:
    • OSPF
    • BGP
    • EIGRP
    • Segmentation
    • QoS
    • High Availability
  • Lead Cisco SD-WAN architecture and operations:
    • App-aware routing
    • Centralized policies
    • Transport redundancy
    • Template-driven changes
  • Engineer scalable solutions using Meraki platforms and Meraki APIs.
  • Integrate networking with Azure and AWS cloud environments:
    • ExpressRoute
    • Direct Connect
    • Virtual WAN
    • VPN architectures
Network Operations & Analysis
  • Design and implement L2/L3 networking, segmentation, QoS, HA, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
  • Lead SD-WAN migrations and policy management.
  • Mentor junior staff and enforce best practices.
  • Support LAN/WAN infrastructure across distributed locations.
  • Analyze logs, alerts, and performance metrics.
Secure Access & Zero Trust
  • Serve as SME for Cisco ISE:
    • 802.1X
    • MAB
    • Profiling
    • SGT/TrustSec
    • Posture
  • Manage firewall policies, NAT, IPS, segmentation, and VPN solutions using Cisco Secure Firewall.
  • Implement Zero Trust concepts with:
    • Duo MFA
    • Cloudflare Zero Trust
    • Identity-aware access
    • Secure remote connectivity
  • Maintain compliance with NIST CSF and NIST SP 800-53.
Automation & APIs
  • Develop automation solutions using:
    • Python
    • PowerShell
    • Ansible
    • REST APIs
    • Git
  • Build automation for:
    • Configuration validation
    • Compliance checks
    • Telemetry
    • Large-scale deployments
    • SD-WAN onboarding
Monitoring & Telemetry
  • Utilize:
    • ThousandEyes
    • SolarWinds/PRTG
    • NetFlow
    • Splunk
  • Create dashboards, alerts, thresholds, and performance analysis.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and post-incident reporting.
Vulnerability Management & Governance
  • Perform vulnerability assessments using:
    • Qualys
    • Tenable
  • Drive remediation workflows.
  • Participate in CAB reviews.
  • Develop rollback plans and maintain change documentation.
Field Engineering & Vendor Coordination
  • Support statewide deployments, migrations, and circuit turn-ups.
  • Coordinate with carriers and vendors.
  • Lead site installations and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Travel to courts throughout Virginia.
Cross-Team Collaboration
  • Partner with:
    • Cloud Engineering
    • Cybersecurity
    • Server/Storage Teams
    • AD/PKI Administrators
    • Application Teams
  • Support identity, certificate, and application integration efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years of enterprise network engineering experience.
  • Expert-level Cisco routing and switching experience (IOS/NX-OS).
  • Advanced knowledge of:
    • OSPF
    • EIGRP
    • BGP
    • MPLS
    • VRF
    • QoS
  • Hands-on Cisco SD-WAN experience:
    • vManage
    • vSmart
    • Policy templates
    • Segmentation
  • Strong Meraki experience, including API utilization.
  • Deep expertise in:
    • Cisco ISE
    • Duo
    • Cloudflare Zero Trust
    • NAC
    • Zero Trust architectures
  • Automation experience:
    • Python
    • PowerShell
    • Bash
    • Ansible
    • REST APIs
    • Git
  • Advanced monitoring experience with:
    • SolarWinds/PRTG
    • ThousandEyes
    • Splunk
  • Strong leadership, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to travel statewide.
  • CCNA required (provide Cisco certification ID if certified).
  • CCNP preferred or in progress.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of enterprise network engineering experience.
  • Azure and AWS network architecture experience.
  • Data center technologies:
    • Cisco ACI
    • VXLAN
    • SDA
  • Public sector or NIST-aligned environment experience.
  • Experience leading multi-site network infrastructure projects.
  • Background mentoring network engineers.
  • Strong understanding of Zero Trust and NAC best practices.
  • Active CCNP certification.
