Field Satellite Engineer (GNSS/GPS) for Global Device Company
Responsibilities:
Test and validate proprietary satellite messaging and emergency SOS features in real-world outdoor environments, often in areas with no cellular service.
Conduct field testing of GNSS/GPS systems, including mobility and stationary tests.
Travel to pre-mapped remote and forested locations to perform testing; non-local trips may take the entire day.
Set up and operate testing equipment on foot in various outdoor conditions, transport equipment over uneven terrain.
Execute test cases using company-provided automation tools and scripts (e.g., Python, Shell); run pre-defined scripts for debugging without modification.
Perform first-level analysis of test data: dump logs, conduct post-processing, analyzing GPS position yield, horizontal errors, and deviations from actual routes.
Identify and troubleshoot issues during tests; debug and fix problems on the spot to ensure test continuity.
Prepare detailed bug reports based on analysis findings.
An assigned driver and transportation are provided for all test sites; you will be a passenger.
Requirements:
Hands-on experience testing satellite communication systems or GNSS/GPS systems.
Knowledge of GPS/GNSS standards and protocols is required; experience with NFC or UWB is a plus.
Must be physically able to perform light hiking and transport equipment on foot over uneven terrain for short distances (e.g., 10-15 minutes from vehicle to site).
Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (summer heat, winter cold).
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug technical issues independently in the field.
Basic proficiency in running pre-defined scripts (e.g., Python, Shell) for test execution and debugging.
Experience with Iridium networks is highly desirable and directly transferable
Experience with 5G/LTE is a plus.
Duration: 12 months (possible extensions)
Pay Rate: $35/hr - $45/hr CAD (DOE)
