MEMS Characterization Lead and Mechanical Engineer
About the Role
The MEMS Group located in Wilmington, MA is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer and Characterization Lead to join our MEMS development team. This role combines experimental characterization leadership and precision mechanical design providing critical contributions to the design, validation, and performance optimization of MEMS inertial sensors and an extensive IMU product line. The ideal candidate will combine strong CAD and mechanical design expertise with hands-on experience in device characterization, data analysis, and experimental methodology.

MEMS Characterization Lead and Mechanical Engineer
About the Role
The MEMS Group located in Wilmington, MA is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer and Characterization Lead to join our MEMS development team. This role combines experimental characterization leadership and precision mechanical design providing critical contributions to the design, validation, and performance optimization of MEMS inertial sensors and an extensive IMU product line. The ideal candidate will combine strong CAD and mechanical design expertise with hands-on experience in device characterization, data analysis, and experimental methodology.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead planning, execution, and documentation of MEMS and IMU characterization activities.
- Develop and maintain experimental setups, including mechanical fixtures, electrical interfacing, and environmental test configurations.
- Define test methodologies to evaluate mechanical, electrical, thermal, and reliability performance metrics.
- Establish best practices, automation, and data management approaches to improve test efficiency and reproducibility.
- Design and develop mechanical components, fixtures, and assemblies to support MEMS and IMU packaging, testing, and system integration.
- Create detailed CAD models and engineering drawings, ensuring manufacturability and compliance with internal and external standards.
- Collaborate with process, packaging, and systems engineers to ensure robust mechanical solutions for MEMS and IMUs.
- Manage design documentation, revision control, and supplier engagement for fabricated parts.
- Train and mentor junior engineers or technicians on test methodologies and equipment usage.
Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- 4+ years of relevant experience in MEMS, semiconductors, sensors, or precision mechanical systems.
- Hands-on experience with MEMS/sensor testing, data acquisition systems, and laboratory instrumentation.
- Experience with test equipment such as vibration test systems, shock testers, laser doppler vibrometers, centrifuges, thermal chambers, or other similar test capabilities.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software.
- Experience in programming in MATLAB, LabVIEW, and Python and familiarity with programming electronic interfaces with test equipment and data acquisition instrumentation.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools.
- Experience with PDM or similar product data management tool.
- Familiarity with FEA tools for mechanical and thermal modeling.
- Familiarity with reliability testing, statistical methods, and Design of Experiments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and lead projects from concept through execution.
