Position: Google Cloud Platform Database Site Reliability/Support Engineer (SCE)

Location: REMOTE

Job Description:

NOTE: We're looking for a Google Cloud Platform Database Support/Site Reliability Engineer to manage, optimize, and troubleshoot cloud-native database systems, with hands-on expertise in Cloud Spanner as a mandatory requirement.

 

Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and manage Google Cloud Platform database services (Cloud Spanner, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Firestore).
  • Monitor performance, availability, and reliability of production database systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents, ensuring SLA/SLO compliance.
  • Optimize Cloud Spanner schemas, queries, and instance configurations for scale and cost.
  • Implement backup, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on database architecture and migrations.
  • Automate operational tasks using Terraform/scripting (Python/Bash).

 

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Hands-on production experience with Google Cloud Spanner (schema design, performance tuning, monitoring).
  • Strong SQL and distributed database concepts (consistency, sharding, replication).
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform IAM, networking, and monitoring (Cloud Monitoring/Logging).
  • Familiarity with incident management and on-call rotations.

 

Good to Have:

  • Google Cloud Platform Professional Cloud Database Engineer certification.
  • Experience with Cloud SQL, BigQuery, or AlloyDB.
  • Terraform/Infrastructure-as-Code experience.
